I mean, I use my pipe wrenches occasionally at home. Rare, but I do use them.

You are allowed to use them on things that aren’t pipes too. In a pinch, they will work on quite a few different things, albeit not what they are intended to be used on.

I doubt he will use one, so I wasn’t really thinking of getting him one, but the responses here act like a pipe wrench is completely useless in 2026, that that’s just not the case.

I use one to change ball’s on a trailer hitch all the time.

Drywall pan (welded corners if budget allows), and stiff 1” putty knife and flexible 3”, 6”, 10” putty knives. Opt for stainless

Homeowner here in a 20 year old house plumbed with cpvc. When you need a pipe wrench, you need a pipe wrench.

Nice that they are asking for tools.

When I got married, I had no say on what was on the wedding registry. During the present opening, I found one was a box of nice tools with a note:

” I saw there was no tools or other guy stuff in the wedding registry and I will be damed if I ever let that happen again”. Amusingly, from a person I did not know. I am still grateful for the thought.
I always buy “guy” things for weddings that are tied to me/my friends, vs my wife’s friends. I’ve given gift cards to Bass Pro, gave a gun to a close friend, my nephew gets married in a month and he’s getting a custom high end hunting knife. Screw the matching linens and towel set.

What did the fiancé say when you asked her?

She is 1/2 of the equation. Maybe she wants a hammer drill :dunno:

If it’s not on their bridal registry, I just give them money

I've cleaned up this thread. Please be decent to each other or don't post.

I need to do another bulk ban off the most ignored list.... getting stupid again with the same usernames involved with drama every time.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say your probably over 65 years old and are stuck in some old ways.
-So traditional woodworking with hand tools is stuck in old ways? I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you're the type that hasn't learned how to do much of anything except call someone else and write a check because your time is too valuable to waste on menial tasks. Your posts just ooze with an inflated ego and a superiority complex. You know nothing about me to warrant that OT comment.
New houses or any built or remodeled in the last 25-30 years have PVC pipes for supply and DWV.
-Perhaps but there's other uses for a pipe wrench besides just steel pipes. Other members seem to think so too.
The only pipes in a house that would need a pipe wrench are gas lines. I wouldn't ever recommended someone who is "not the most handy" in the world (per the OP's original words) to touch those pipes.
-My house (2012 build) has the supply from the well coming in as steel pipe. So do plenty of others across the country on a well. Not everybody lives in the suburbs y'know. I wouldn't recommend you ever touch a gas line either.
let it be their problem when something goes sideways.
-I would imagine the bulk of your experience has concluded with things going sideways, thanks for sharing.

- Other members come here to learn things, you apparently don't try to learn so I don't know why you're here. This was supposed to be a simple request for suggestions by the OP. You've caused it to deteriorate into a ******* match. I will offer no further replies so you can have the last word...your ego probably needs to have the last word.

-My sincere apologies to the OP for going way off topic by making this reply.
