Worth Quoting!

OP still love the idea of having an area like this in an old mill but my pinko part of the country does not like people to think out side of the box.

Keep at it!

Very nice man! Kudos to you and your friends for making this work out, that kind of co-op is great.

I've been to St. Louis a few times, evidently I missed the coolest part of the city.

^^^ I spent about 4 days in St. Louis back in the 80's while visiting a friend. We had a great time. We visited the Laclede's Landing area which looks a lot like the area where the OP's shop is. It's very close to the arch which we enjoyed too ... not to mention our tour of the Anheuser- Busch plant.

That's a neat shop. I do a lot of work in factories and warehouses. Most are newer steel buildings with little or no character. But the odd one is really cool. The Nestle factory (where they make Kit Kat and other chocolate bars) and Kraft Foods (which has since closed and sadly will be bulldozed to make way for condos) both located in Toronto are really neat buildings.

These guys are friends of mine. I have been there a few times. It is a really cool space. They have a loft area too. The loft is supported by beams and columns. Where the beams and columns meet there are really cool cast iron gussets. Thats just a little detail to add to this damn neat space.

You need a vintage Greisedieck sign! If such a thing even exists anymore...... you've got a great shop.

Your thread inspired me to join this forum. You have captured the essence of America. The brick & mortar buildings, the shop with cast iron tools, and the renaissance of old iron vehicles tugs at your heartstrings and propels your mind down memory lane to a time when “Made in the USA” had meaning.

Thanks for sharing. The “Spirit of St Louis” is still alive and well.

"Yeah we got some good guys, and a really good guy that deals with collecting rent and etc etc" – I like the last part of that....sounds like he walks around with a pipe, making sure everyone pays...LOL...
This is an amazing garage, love the architecture and history behind the place. Always great seeing local icons get a second (third or fourth) life as something cool that people can use and enjoy. Enjoy the thread, pics and cars. Keep it up!

Now that is just one badass shop for sure.:beer:

I may be totally wrong, but did you lengthen the back end of your Shoebox? It sure looks like a lot of space between the back of the roof to the decklid :dunno:

It does look longer, but I'm sure it's because the deck lid is longer due to the roof chop.

Thanks for all the positive replies fellas!

Just did a search on Wikipedia "Lemp Mansion". What a crazy, interesting, tragic story of not only the family, but the 40 odd breweries of this region through the turn of the century. Just amazing...

Actually the guy that I got the Falstaff sign from has tons of Greisedieck stuff,
lots of $$$ for it... I just happen to get a smoking deal on that sign. ;)

Just the 51 ford car does, it come with all of it so I thought Id run it... my truck just has the axles flipped.

Right on, that's a cool way to put it  ... there's something that draws me too this place even when its really hot or cold... and even if my volume goes up and down on me stereo all night and I hear things.. :eyecrazy::lol::willy_nil

Yeah hes not that bad but I wouldn't owe him money :Mr.T:
Alot of people have a lot of bad things to say about the area, we've got a surge of hipsters moving in the area from the county and IL trying to live that cool urban life

actually, st louis isn't as bad as it's public image would lead you believe. this area has a lot vibrant small businesses, and has seen it's share of ups and downs.

the lemp is a beautiful collection of buildings, and the best way to preserve these places is to keep them in use. too much of our local history has already rotted away...

Cool space man. I go in there to buy stuff from Regan on occasion. I know few other guys with different shops in the complex, biggest complaint is always lack of heat. Haha. Cherokee has tons of good places to eat/shop as well.

Love people from out of the area making comments about St Louis and proving they don't know a thing about it. Stop believing all the "studies", too long to go into, but the numbers are skewed.

^^^ Huh? :headscrat I'm seeing a lot of positive comments here.

I think he was under lining an issue kinda off the topic here. No biggie

Nothing personally against St. Louis, it's just that that's where the company CPI was HQed, they bought the company that I worked for PCA and put most of us outa work.
The saving grace to it is I heard a couple months ago that CPI had folded up too.

Falstaff was definitely a working class brew. I remember back in the day before aluminum cans sometimes your cans would be a little bit rusty when you bought a case. Didn't hurt the beer any. But we weren't beer connoisseurs like a lotta people are today. St Louis has a lot going on for for it. People are moving back into town in Houston also. converting old buildings into loft apartments, etc. People don't want to commute anymore. Keep up the good work on your shop, I really enjoy your posts!

I hear you. I could live in the city or way out in the country, it's that space in between that's a killer.

Definitely will stop by next time I'm through there. I'm over by Lafayette Square, but sorta hidden. Drop me a line if you are going to be in the area.

He's pretty entrenched in that space. I'd hate to move all that stuff, be a massive operation-not sure his Nissan is up to that challenge!
