A table saw has always been on my want list but it's never made it over to the need list. Yesterday this model of saw showed up on CL about 20 minutes from my house. The guy claims it's seen very little use and he's asking $220 complete with rolling stand.

$220 for a saw with soft start and brake seems way too good to pass up. In my garage it will probably only be used a few times a year but I'm not typically one to buy **** power tools so I'm on the fence about this. The Hitachi might not be a **** saw but I have zero experience with Hitachi tools.

Anyone have any real world experience with this model?

Thanks
TC

I considered this saw for a recent purchase and did a fair amount of research.

Opinions are sharply divided. It seems to be a good saw when it works, but a lot of people report reliability issues followed by long waits for parts. The guys who haven't had reliability problems really like it, but obviously the guys with broken saws don't.

I decided to pass, and spent the extra dough for the worm-drive Skilsaw instead. But if you do decide to buy the Hitachi, Lowe's has it new for $349 right now with an 11% rebate. Might be worth the extra money to get a new one in a box with a warranty, given the reliability concerns.
