I recently acquired (for FREE!!) a used, but functional Hitachi P12R planer.

Giver did not have the blade setting guide that should accompany it nor the manual.

I have looked on the internets but it seems the P12R was superseded a while ago by the P12RA which has a jointer tool built-in on the side.

I don't trust that the planer mechanism of the P12R is similar enough to the P12RA. The blade guides can still be had from www.toolbarn.com but no manual.

Any leads on a manual for a Hitachi P12R?

Are you sure the P12R is a completely different tool than the P12RA? I've never used one, but my understanding was that the older Hitachi planer was available both with, and without, the jointer attachment. The A added to the end would make sense for the version with the jointer, and without the A for the version without the jointer. setting the blades should be the same for both. There are aftermarket planer blade setting guides available. You may be able to use the guides from a different manufacturer. The Dewalt DW733 planer came with planer blade setting guides. Part number 285980-00. You can order them from here. http://www.ereplacementparts.com/dewalt-dw733-type-inch-planer-parts-c-1009_2664_2676.html part number 92, cost $5.08 you'll need 2.

Do a google search for Hitachi P12r manual. There were a couple of links to manuals. One was from Hitachi power tools for the P12ra manual. Hope this helps.

I know this is an older thread, but I just bought this planer with a dust hood, extra knives, extra belts and manual for $50.00 on CL. Only problem is the small metal key for the cutterhead is broken off. Im not sure I'm useing correct terms, I'm not a knowledgeable guy with machines, but I can post pictures if anyone wants. It looks like an easy fix, so I'll give it a shot and update then. In the meantime, if you still need the manual, I'd be happy to scan it and send a PDF to you.
