Hey ya all,

have come to the conclusion that I have only one wall that I can truly utilize for building my workshop (inside the garage). here it is...

the workable area is 19.5' wide and 11' high. I'm thinking the best bet is cabinets along the top, and a nice countertop as the bench on top of shelving. I have a variety of things that I work on (or will be working on). such as...the bikes (which in the pic is my bike - The Hulk. 2012 ZX-14R), the vehicles, woodworking projects (once I get my Shopsmith up n running), and a few other things like weapons (maybe get into reloading).

the question I have may be pretty wide open, but I am pretty undecided on the best way to use the space... cabinets everywhere, shelves everywhere, a mix, or pegboard everywhere....etc. decisions, decisions... I already have a couple toolboxes and a bunch of power tools still in their cases, so no need to hang all the tools on pegboard but some peg might be nice...it's frustrating because I have seen a few of yours in multiple versions and they look outstanding!

grrrrr...

Not sure if this will work for your needs; what I did was add a partition wall to separate my motorcycle parking area from the workshop space. This gave me some valuable wall real estate for both spaces.

Sorry to say its impossible to know what will work for you till you try it out. I'm on my 5th redo of my wood shop and I have 4x4 two feet deep sectioned open front storage made specifically for specific items like chop saw, tool cases, etc and 4x4 cabinets with shelves and pegboard doors. I've gone through the just cabinets and the just shelves already. sorry try to plan what you have and what it needs. never going to be a final solution. whatever you do try and make it usable later. so instead of just pegboard on the walls make a French cleat system that you can hang items from and later support cabinets if needed.

as far as the garage door rails, won't be an issue.
I won't be able to set up a partition since my wife will be parking her car in that bay next to the bikes. still undecided on whether to put bikes next to work area or put em between the bays.. (between Dually and her ride)
I know I'll be using some kind of "cleat" system for other walls around the garage and prefer to just mount the work area more permanently since there is no other place to put it. the cleat system will be used for the garden/yard tools.

it'll be a slow process since money is tight right now and my job doesn't leave much time to be desired except when I'm actually BACK from the job. otherwise, I'm out of town in the next state.

thanks for the pics/thoughts ya all. keep em coming!!

Well, here's the latest pics... got a lot done the last few weeks. My Honey has actually been pushing to get it done, so I am a very happy guy!

This is the storage I built to get some stuff off the ground. It is located where the front of the dually would be. It also has a recessed light so I can work on things on the side of the garage too (just look for the electrical cable hanging down)

This is the first few pic of the main work bench. My Honey is helping me out. She wants her own power tools now. Oh darn the luck. Means I gotta by another toolbox. :( LOL

and here are the pics of the 90% finish of the work bench...
where the drum with **** in it is sitting, will be a future gun safe.

next goal... cabinets. then MORE storage shelves around the garage. got lots of 2x4s left to use.

oh, once again, my Honey has come thru. she got a business she used to work at (years ago), to sell us the countertops for $3 a linear foot. WOOOT!!

Spouses/ honeys that are willing to lend a hand are the best.

You're approaching it correctly. Don't spend a lot money until you know exactly what you want. The high ceiling will provide you a lot of area to place seldom used items.

Stay warm.

Thank you. Yep, she rocks! we've got the cabinets picked out, but we gotta wait til I get another week off so I can install them right away and not have more space taken up on the floor. I try to keep plenty of space open for her to park her ride inside. Cabinets would cut into the space too much, so I can wait. no rush. Only real benefit is to get my truck in the garage sooner, but I'm not really worrying since it ain't a show truck. it gets mud, salt and grime on it. no biggie. I bet I'll get more shelves up before I get cabinets bought, since I think I have all the materials I need to "git r dun!"
