Guy at local flea this morning had this setup we couldn't identify. 3 tool collectors and we had never seen anything like this. The tube they're in isn't original to the tools, but here's what I have for info. No patent, but the "E" in the diamond, and theres a different 5 digit number on each extension piece. They all screw together, end to end and have 4 holes in each piece. The holes are near each end, and are all the way through each piece. The holes are also unthreaded. Only things we could think of was maybe something to clear out gas lines, or detect leaks somehow??? Any ideas?

I'm thinking that the holes are for putting a rod through to tighten/loosen the threaded joints.

It looks like a cleaning rod for a firearm, only longer. What is the diameter of the tubing? How long is it when all the parts are screwed together?
