Hey everyone, used my Hobart 140 the other day and it was just a sputtering disaster. Used it about a week before and no issues. Haven't changed anything. So tonight I replaced the tip, unhooked the ground clamp and cleaned up all that. Replaced the liner just Incase, I have ran a lot of wire thru this welder. Welding wire is not rusted or anything. Cleaned the drive wheel and made sure gas was working properly.

All that no changes still sputters bad especially at the highest amp setting even with wire turned down. Pulled the cover off but didn't see anything noticable. I hate to take it to a repair center because I can probably just buy another one for not much more money id I had to guess. Guess I'll call Hobart and see if they have anything to say and call the closest repair center to get an idea.

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks

Experienced the same issue. I was thinking bad ground connection and that did help a bit. The steel I was welding was really low grade with some zinc coating left imbedded. That was the culprit on that job. I’m looking to see if that’s the welder issue in the future though.

Were you running it off of an extension cord?
Have you ever changed the gun liner?
