Scored a barely used Hobart 187 yesterday. Seller said he used it to fix bleachers for a local marching band. Included an 80 cuft bottle (mostly full), cart, auto-dark Hobart helmet, welding jacket, gloves, clamp and 3 spools of wire for $425.

I'm a weekend warrior without farm equipment and really don't need 3 welders. Time to sell the Lincoln IdealArc and AC Tombstone units!

That is a great welder for the size. We bought a Hobart 180 years ago for our first wire welder. We wanted a smaller one so we could move between farms easy. Always said we would get a bigger one in the future, but so far havent needed it.

The 187 is a way better machine than the 180 BTW. The top end output is way more stable with 030 and they added a couple speeds to the gearbox. The arc quality is very good, top of the line.

Thanks guys. I'm in the middle of a move so won't be able to use the 187 just yet.

Looking forward to a smoother process and the auto-dark. Been watching Chucke2009 and Jody's MIG welding videos on weldingtipsandtricks too. Some great stuff there.

I have that exact model ... love it. Plenty of power to make a trailer, or any other shop toys.

Only issue I've had with it is the contactor sticking open. When that happens gas keeps flowing and wire is hot. Easy to replace though.

Same one here as well, and the same helmet too. I've been using them here and there for the past 5 years with no problem at all!
