I think I've decided on the Hobart 190 with Spoolrunner 100 for my home shop where I'll mostly be doing stuff with our Jeeps and making tools and things for the shop. The best price I've found for this is $799, plus tax, free shipping. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005CGZNMM/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Anyone know of a better deal? I couldn't find any rebates.

This is my first welder purchase. What else do I need to get started? I know I need a tank from a local supply co. Need a helmet and gloves. Anything else?

Thanks guys. I have to pay sales tax from both Amazon and Northern now. :( So Northern looks to be a tad cheaper. Nice to have a store local to return to, as you mentioned.

Are there any consumables, tools, or other things I should get right away that would prevent me from starting out? Once I open the box, it drives me crazy to wait a couple days if I don't have everything. :)

MIG pliers (welpers). Not a must have, but very handy.

Angle grinder(s) to prep your stuff before/after welding.

Extra tips for the MIG gun. Different sizes as well if you're looking to run .023" wire for sheet metal.

Buy a 4 1/2 angle grinder from Walmart. The B&D 7750 is darn near as good as any they make and will wear you out before it does.

No reason not to get the best deal you can but that is a very very good machine. Its designed for 030 solid wire. The 210 has a pinch more top end poop but its not a deal breaker.

The TSC 10%-OFF coupon that arrived in mailboxes a few days ago and is valid through 8/24/2014 applies to all welders. The sales associate at my TSC said that it even applies to already discounted welders.

I just got home from TSC with the Hobart 210 MVP for $809.99 + tax after the 10% discount.

The online discount code for this sale is TSC10. In the past, I've had online orders shipped to store.

I'm not exactly sure how to get on the postal mailing list. When discussed in another forum, the email sign-up got them advertisements in their inbox, but not necessarily flyers and coupons in the mail. It was theorized that they get your name and address for the mailing list when you make a credit card purchase in the store. I'd go into the store and ask how to get on the mailing list.
