Hobart 210 MVP or Multi 200

Hi all,

Every year about this time I start thinking about buying a welder. I’m leaning toward the 210 MVP with a spool gun but the 200 Multi is about $100 more. Is one a more capable machine? Obviously the Multi does Mig/stick/DC tig but usually when you try to get multiple functions out of something you get mediocre results. I’m not sure if it’s the same with a welder.

I have a MVP 210 and for me it is a great machine. I would rather have seperate units. I have a Hobart AC/DC stick welder and I also have a Lincoln Weld Pak 100 I keep 024 wire in and 030 in the 210 both have gas. Yes the MVP is a heavy transformer but it will probably run forever. My Lincoln is at least 20 years old and it has been overused the entire time.

I just went through this and ended up picking the Hobart 210, largely because it seemed like a pain to have to switch setups with the same machine and the multiprocess machines can't TIG aluminum unless you're willing to shell out quite a bit more than it would cost for 2 standalone Mig and Tig units.

DTE, how is your MVP with gas? I'm still trying to talk myself into buying a bottle and trying it out.

A hundred more for the stick function? If I didnt have another one it would be worth it to me. I like stick for some repair work and overhead.
You got to invest in another bottle for aluminum but,,,, if a guy has a little equipment it can be a **** saver when you need it. I dont care to work with alum really, nothing against it but just dont care, most of the worlds real **** is steel and steel construction, rust or collision etc. But there is no substitute for some when you need it, in that capacity nd down to limited 16 ga work can manage most of it with spool when I gotta doit.

Steel, steel brackets and repairs, done simple 1000's of them over a career, just little fix and mod with a drill a saw, a torch and a welder and wire makes it so much even easier with the world being so much lighter and mass produced vs job shop of old.

myself gas is a must have. once you get it I would be surprised if you ever went back to flux core.I have it on both my migs. If I did not have gas I would use my stick on dc with 7018 rod. But that is just me.

Gotta go with the crowd here. I have the 210 and it’s a fine machine. You can always pick up a Lincoln tombstone real cheap for those times you need stick. You can pick up a ChiCom TIG inverter unit pretty cheap, seperate gases for the TIG and MIG and you’re ready to make some smoke

After 15+ years with a 115v Lincoln SP135, last year I bought a 210 MVP and love it. It is rock solid, simple and bulletproof. I recently got a larger gas bottle and use a large .030" wire spool on it. I have a monster Lincoln Idealarc 250 if I need something heavier, but I rarely do. The 210 MVP is my go to machine.

I have a Hobart 175 and issue out of it. I've considered buying the 210 for the spool gun option.

I also have a Lincoln tombstone welder for stick welding. Buy the 210 & take the $100 extra to CL for a nice used tombstone.

The stick on this will be a lot better than AC tombstone. A dc is a different matter. For 100$ the multi seems like a deal?

But,, I got 10 machines and the 180 feeder is used the most. My neighbor has a 180, ain't been over to weld something in 15 years.

I ended up ordering the 210 with the spool gun last night. I did the deal with Northern Tool where I got a $200 gift card. Seemed like a good deal since I need a mask, gloves, consumables, etc.

I want to upgrade the ground clamp. What are the thoughts on this one? Hobart Brass Clamp

I put that style clamp on all my welders. Its fine.
