Hobart Handler 187 MIG Welder

Im in the market for a new welder and my local Tool King has a factory reconditioned Hobart 187 for $479.
Is this a good price for one?

Decent price, but do you get a warranty with it? It was reconditioned for some reason .

Compare it to the newer Hobarts. I think the 187 was replaced by the 190 if not mistaken. I believe they are going for $700 at the TSC by me.

I bought a recon HH175 years back. It has worked flawlessly. That price seems good.

if it has warranty, its probably ok. Beat the **** out of it right off the bat to make sure it performs as expencted, use all the features.

Reconditioned can mean a lot of things, including a return for no reason from a customer but they can't call it new or a warranty replacement that was a simple repair at the depot, but again, not 'new'.

I'd buy it at that price. I'd also make sure they'll take it back if there's something wrong or missing. Set it up and run a bunch of wire through it immediately to make sure it's been recon'd right. I have a 187, and it's great. Do remember, if you want to do aluminum, it's going to cost you $3-500 for the add ons. That may make you want to buy the 190 right off the bat.

On the other hand, two mig machines are better than one. Especially if you switch back and forth frequently.

That's an excellent price and I would certainly trust Hobart to do a proper reconditioning. I have a 187 and love it but I'm not a professional welder that burns wire all day long.

They matched it for 030 and got the gears in the 187 just right. I got a little Lincoln with a 5 speed is about as perfect as it gets too.

I think the first was a Hobart 210, the second is a Linc SPT, the 187 is as good maybe better, certainly not worse.

I guess the first question would be if you ever plan to add spool gun? The 190 is basically the 187 except it is spool gun ready. The 190 is $649 at Tractor Supply so $479 for the factory reman sounds like a pretty good price if you don't plan to do any aluminum work. I bought a 190 a while back and I love it!!

I have a 187 and love it. I have run a lot of passes with it and the overload has never opened. hobart customer service is really good too.

I have never opened the over load on one and have ran them beyond their duty cycle and then some.

if it still has the warranty, go for it. i've never had any issues with mine. good machines.

I like me some hobarts. Ironman at work welds better than anything else I have ever tried.
