Hobart IronMan 230 vs. 240

I recently picked up a brand new Hobart IronMan 230 MiG welder. I also purchased the spool gun attachment and the protective cover. All of the items were “clearance” priced, and I got a really good deal.

I was just wondering if it’s worth trying to sell this welder and make a little money on it. And then upgrade to the newer IronMan 240??? I’ve read a lot of good reviews on the 230, but I’m not sure if the 240 will be as reliable of a welder? It will be for home hobby purposes.

I just bought the same thing, 230 with spool gun.... wanted the aluminum welding option.

I had a Hobart 175 that worked fine. Hobart changed a few things gave them a new model number.

Saving $200 on the welder and another $100 on the spool gun allows me to put the money elsewhere. As a Home DIYer, I know the 230 will do everything I need it to.

Save the cash and use it for your bottle rentals....C25 & Argon.

Yeah that’s a good way to look at it. Just didn’t know if the 240 was a big improvement over the 230.

Does anyone have more opinions on the differences between the beloved 230 and the new 240...?

im not a fan of stand alone machines if its going to be your only machine. having multiprocess opens more doors of what your able to do. me personally would skip the 240 and be looking at the multi handler200. it has more power and duty cycle than the average home user would ever need. hek it would run a 3/16 7018 for short periods if you needed to. thats some serious fire power

I'm less of a fan when it comes to multi process ... I feel as though you lose some quality when it comes to each process that way... anyways, I have an old stick (tombstone) , Chinese tig (primeweld), and a 120v mig. I'm just wanting a mig that'll jump into spray transfer as I am occasionally working on big .5 thick axle tube.
