Hobart Mega Arc 300 Question

Hey Guys

I was at an auction this past weekend & picked up a Hobart Mega Arc 300.

REALLY clean (and heavy!), and 3 phase. Let's just say that I was made an offer that I couldn't refuse

I'm certainly not an experienced welder, and I would appreciate it if some of you experts could help me out -

Is this welder an arc welder only, or can it be used for mig and/or tig welding as well?

Thanks for your help!

I think I have one just like it, but I haven't ever used it.

It was practically new and $50.00? Being 3 phase makes some stuff cheap.

I might even have a manual on it.

I actually have a 500 amp version that is very similar, that does have a mig on it.

Most of the time stick and tig are Constant Current machines and MIGs are Constant Voltage?
I basically bought mine for DC stick welding.

Pretty sure that machine is arc only. You should be able to get a manual from your local welding supply store (Miller dealer) if they can't help you (that machine might be older and fall into that "before the buyout" type deal) contact buffalo welding supply.

I'm pretty sure that mine was built quite a while before Miller was involved.

I "think" that Hobart was split up Miller got the smaller consumer grade stuff, and I think Thermal Arc or Thermaldyne got the industrial type stuff.

I may be wrong about all that.

There used to be a site that had all of the Hobart commercial welder manuals, but I think its gone now.

For what its worth I have quite a bit older Hobart welding equipment and I am very pleased with it. Some I bought new as far back as 1980 and (knock on wood) and they still work great.

Guys

Thanks for the info so far!

You already cleared up one mystery - the namplate shows values in CC & DC - I knew what DC was, and now I know that CC stands for Constant Current.

Being uninformed, does this mean arc & tig capable?

Thanks!
