--------------------------------

UPDATE : read the next post #3 from me here for update .

--------------------------------

looking at this unit for a backup gen setup for the house/ shop and also some side work maybe .

here is the story . its basically BRAND NEW with 2.4hr on the hour meter YES 2.4hr run time .

it was purchased brand new in the summer of 1999 for the Y2K global melt down fears and as we all know it didn't happen . it sat brand new on the shipping pallet in the shrink wrap for 10+ years in the barn . a guy working there dug it out and cleaned the carb and fired it up and tested it out for function and that was the end of it . its been sitting a few years now since run 4-5 years i think .

if i can make a deal knowing its 20years old what do you think is a fair price point to be at with this unit . ?

A new one is 3k or better, probably would be a deal at 1500, or so. I think they may haver changed design a bit with the newer ones but I am not really familiar with them.

so the unit is now in my shop and i have gotten it running after swapping in a good battery / fresh gas / new fuel hoses and filter for old stiff lines of age .

she fired up and run but the gen part was not putting out power so i popped the main cover off and found a capacitor popped from a long time ago not me .

called hobart tech line ( SUPER NICE GUY ) and he said yep someone jump started it at 1 point with a vehicle and cables . when the alt kicks in on high load from the jump start it pops this and saves the whole unit . . . but the board is over 1,600 bucks new .............. he did say there is a few companys that service these boards and have good results . but they as the maker to dont use them he has just heard of 2 a lot from customers .

i found anywere from 160.00 - 400.00 for repair and thats just the board .

now if this is fixed and i need other parts it might not be worth it in the end . and this is also if the board is fixable . its got a decent burn spot on the back and a few runs are cooked off .

whats your guys feedback on this setup now with this info ?

thanks and let me know .

I hope you didn't pay what I babbled about earlier. The age would have put it at a grand tops if you wanted to run the **** out of it. I have seen good engine drives running for 700 and up.
I got a bud that in 40 yrs never put one decent unit together and mostly from not buying one good enough running, always gonna salvage some lost cause and spent 10 times what a new one would cost. That's not the case here, this is a nice machine.
In today's world most mortals need some help. Lots better with 2 men, I have a tech that figures out what I can't and can solve some complicated problems. We could service the board, some more new **** not so much but I could buy that machine and make it work.
I bought a standby someone had worked on, once I got the helper to take a look vs speculate a little and I might have had a drawing. I don't remember but I got it knowing it didn't work and got a little lucky. We put better part in than one, I think we ordered, wasn't somethi g I had as I recall.

Over a year later and you are still deciding if you want to buy this thing? :wtf:

If your goal is a backup gen for the house, get something new that is reliable.
