The Hobarts look almost like TIG gloves to me with the soft leather on the palms and fingers.

They would be OK I guess if you did some light duty MIG or TIG welding.

I personally would get the gloves with the heavy rough leather if your planning any stick welding or heavy MIG welding. I eneded up trashing my TIG gloves by MIG welding plate steel with them. The soft leather almost "melts" if you get them too hot.

Just my $.02 worth

I wear one of these on my left hand that faces the heat and then I wear a leather truck driver's glove on my right hand.

Thanks for your replies. It looks like I can't go for one universal set of gloves for all my welding. For now I will be doing Oxy Ace but eventually MIG as well.

Which one do you think is good for gas welding?

tks

Buy something heavy.... and semi-disposable. The lightweight TIG gloves are nice for fine work where the heat is a little more controlled. But for gas, stick and even some MIG, I just get the heavy gloves from HF when they are on sale and trash them when they are used up. Hell, I use the cheap heavy ones from HF for all sorts of things... and they actually last quite a while considering the price.
