Hey Everyone,
I have a "2 car" garage with low ceilings that I am doing some small modifications to in order to install a Maxjax lift in.
The garage is a total of 25 feet wide (20ft of sliding doors) and about a 5ft area to put lawn equipment on the right side.
There are currently 4 collar ties running across the garage at a height of about 82 inches.
The lift has a max pad height of 45 inches and my volvo v70r is about 55 inches from the jacking points to the top of the roof racks. I need 100 inches of room and to be safe have decided that the new collar ties should be about 106 inches up.
This is the only picture I can find that shows about how much height I am dealing with.
I know I will be making the structure weaker when I move the collar ties up so I have decided to put in 8 instead of the 4 that were there.
The way the garage is built, the A frame sits on top of the original collar ties so I am going to have to keep part of them in place. Next up will be installing vertical braces from the old collar ties to the new ones.
Just for reference the new collar ties are 2x6x16 with just the angle cut into each side, which leaves about 14 ft of wood that you can see.
