Sorry but this is the only picture I have right now. The building is about twice as long as you can see here. The frame on the left is a jig to build square tubing panels we put up in a feedlot. On the right is a chop saw and alot of scap steel. Those white boxes in the upper right corner run along the whole side of the building, (I just tore then down) they were part of the ventilation system for the hog barn. There are about 6 vents down the side of the building that are still there.

I am planning on cleaning it up and making it useful for working on stuff. First thing that needs to happen is get the door hung back on the other side.

If you look closely you can tell that the center of the building is an inch or two lower than the sides.

I guess I am curious on peoples input on what should all be in there....there are 3 large deep freezes towards the front, a pheasant cleaning station with a stainless sink, and we usually shoot clay pigeons out of the back door (behind the jeep). So I was thinking about making some racks for guns to lean on and shelving for ammo, clays, etc....

There are also 2 large welders with the "remote" that hangs on a rail in front of the steel panel jig. So I was thinking of putting a welding table there.

First things I want to do is clean up the walls, maybe paint....or replace depending on whats cheaper/easier. Maybe lighting as well.

Concrete walls, metal walls, or plywood walls? Looks to be plywood walls. How long has the hogs been out of there and how is the smell now? We have a couple of hog farms around us, and to the non hog person, they really smell. I can only imagine the smell has soaked into the wood. Hopefully some primer and paint will kill it.

Wood frame building with thin plywood for walls. There is no smell. There haven't been any hogs in there for at least 10 years. The only thing with the walls is the residue that millions of flies have left on there. Thinking about taking a pressure washer to it and seeing what happens.

lutter, i wouldent use water on unsealed plywood, if anything, ya might try sanding it. i would think a sander like you use for sheet rock would work, use a ventilator though, your lungs will thank you later in life. as far as what to put where, sounds like you have a good start. think it out now, way easer now then later. if you can, clean it out and chalk line what you want, where you want it. this will give ya a good idea of the foot print of things and how much room you have left to work with.

i dont know what you are going to use it for but, ya gotta take that into account. for example, my shop, i weld and grind a lot, building bikes. also, i do constrution so i have a lot of saw dust to deal with. for me, inclosed storage is a biggie. also, i only have a 20' by 30' building so i have to use every squair inch wisely.

That's a nice looking space you have started there. Some pallet racking for organization and you'll have plenty of room to work!

Mmmmmm. Bacon AND a garage!

My male DNA is tweaking!

Well, it was a bacon garage! :bounce:

Here are some more pics of the jeep. Its a 1948 CJ2A with the L134 flathead. I know the windshield is off of a M38 and there aren't any Willys stampings anywhere. I am pretty sure that the previous owner wrecked the body and put an aftermarket one on.

VERY cool jeep project! I stored a friend's jeep in my hangar at the airport I worked at for a while and got to drive it regularly. His was about the same age as yours with the same engine and a blast to drive!

Pallet racking can be found very cheap at warehouse closure sales. Failing that, Craigslist can be a good place. Some guys go to the warehouse closure sales and buy it by the truckload and re-sell it.

Thanks everyone, any recommendations on lighting?

Many times electrical shops have old ones they remove so they can put the new LED lights in. They sometimes sell them on Craigslist but many times you can just call them up and tell them to keep there eyes open for used ones. I have bought quite a few from a friend who ownes an electrical business and they are awesome.

Just my 2 Yen.

Great looking jeep! That engine looks immaculate! Sometimes we all have to use what we have, and I like using that hog barn! Most of the one I have been in though have been shorter. You have a pretty decent ceiling height in yours! With all that space, are you going to partition it off and make seperate rooms? Good luck with it!

I don't think I will make any different rooms. I'm thinking it just needs to be cleaned up, add a few work benches, fix the doors, maybe a little better lighting.

Pallet racking can be bought at Mac's hardware. Huron Aberdeen, Watertown or SF depending where you are located. Maybe tin the walls, that would brighten it up for sure. Good luck with the project.

Yea, I'll have to check em out. I've been to Mac's in Watertown and SuFu, but never really looked at the racks.

the only yhing with tinning the walls is echo. with you doing any welding, you may want to look at putting some old roofing tin along the bottom and sheetrocking the top.
