Is there anybody making impact extensions with a "hog ring" style detent instead of the typical ball detent, other than Snap-on? I thought these looked interesting since it can be a little fiddly getting the detent hole on the socket lined up with the ball, but at $36 for a 3-inch extension it's a little rich for my shadetree blood.

(like this):
Alternatively, if anybody's used these and can confirm they're nice or tell me they're garbage, I'd appreciate that feedback as well!

SnapOn doesn't have an exclusive lock on them, but I'm not sure who's making them cheaply.

Not a fan of the idea. The best way to go is a LOCKING impact extension. On these the ball goes into the socket hole and can't come out without the sleeve being moved back. Sockets fly off of impact wrenches all day long with only the hog ring holding them.

I use my 3" Snap On hog ring extension with flip sockets on lug nuts. The depth of the square drive eliminates the possibility of anything flying off, but I do see your point.

I like my SO hog ring extensions. Also have a locking kind for when using wobbles, but kind of a pain.
