Hoist Opener

I am expanding my overhead door from 18'wide by 12' high to 22'X13' and because of the new height i will loose my opener. The building has 14' sidewalls so no room left for the opener. But I am wondering if I can get a hoist opener for that size door. The door will be on my 36x45 pole building.

I have seen photos of hoist openers install below the garage door rails so wondering if that would work for my installation? I realize the door in the photo below is not as wide as what mine will be but i would hope it could handle it?

Anyone have any advice or insight? I dont want to have to manually open and close the door if I can help it.

Yes, of course. The spring tension balances most of the gravity of the door so that very little effort is actually needed to run the door. I can't comment on capacities or models but as long as there is a balancer spring you should be able to find a jackshaft opener.

Well, you'll DEFINITELY be able to use some kind of opener, but it's not going to be any of the residential models like the liftmaster 8500. That door is much too large for one.

We had some chain-drive jackshaft openers where I used to work that opened some doors about that size. They are not cheap, but they will get the job done.

Liftmaster makes commercial hoist-style and jackshaft style that'll work for you. But they aren't available except through dealers, as far as I know. Any commercial door place should be able to give you a quote.
