Ok, im sure this subject has been beat to death but I need some advice. My layout is slightly different thanks to the city putting power boxes and phone boxes in my alley. So now i can fit a 4 car garage but can only access on side of it.
Im wondering what side I should put my hoist? I have made some rough sketches of what I was thinking and how its laid out.

Also, what's the distance you need from the side of a two post hoist to the front of the car/truck? The concrete is getting poured on wensday and I need to figure out where to thicken the pad.

Thanks again, this site is the best reference guide I have ever found.

Well that's yet to be determined. I have 10' walls so I was thinking a XPR-9 BendPak or something similar.

Of those two I'd say the one on the left, but it will matter what kind of vehicle you're going to put on the lift - maneuvering in through the door and turning sideways will be tricky either way unless you're driving a Smart Car. :) Plus, any cars you have parked in there will have to be pulled out to get into the side section. If it were me I'd place the lift on the right side so you can drive straight in and out to get on it.

You almost are going to need a set of go-jaks to rotate the car with, to align it with the lift.

How much space is between the power and phone boxes?

You may want to position the lift columns so the car sits on an angle and not a full 90 to the door.

Well the boxes are about 5 feet of where the garage wall will be but there is no way around them.

I like the angle idea but it kinda eats up a lot of floor space. I was thinking of the far right side too but i was hoping to make that the wifes parking area.

I know this isnt the best way to setup a shop but I can only play with the cards im dealt, if that means go jaks I guess thats it.
