Hoist point

I have a W8 steel beam running 21’ side to side of my garage. When we built an add-on half story my contractor did calculations and added an lvl that is effectively sistered to the W8. I’d love to have a hoist for small items say garden tractor and below. 1k pounds max? Well I no longer have an I beam — effectively I have a c or u channel because the lvl is sistered dead against one side of the W8. So I can drill an eye bolt mount into the W8 for a static mounting point. But is there any option for a jambed hoist point from a c/u channel? That is, one that would travel or adjust side to side in the garage. Just looking for ideas. I don’t want to take risks. Thanks!

If the added construction required the beam to be upgraded, I would not add an additional 1000 lbs. to it, it was not designed for that additional load. If you put a temporary column under it to reduce the span while you are using it to hoist something, maybe it will work.
