I just got a hoist & need to figure out away to hang it outside. Any ideas?

I wanted to build something portable with 4x4's 0r with 1 1/4 galv pipe.

Almost to simulate a tripod with hoist hanging down.

MUST BE CHEAP$$$ budget is 200.00 ing:

I used to just lash 3 4x4s together with a chain.

I have plenty of trees, none have branches that extend outward, just upward. Looking for a portable set up. Getting older & need to save my back. I love the tripod idea.

I've used wooden tri pods, old swing sets, and tree limbs, but I wouln't recommen any of them, as none seemed very safe. You get smarter sometimes, if you are lucky enough to get older.

Either get a cherry picker (they seem to come up cheap on Craigslist often after people get tired of storing them) or the HF Gantry.

The problem with the kluged lifting devices, besides lack of safety, is that there isn't a good way to allign your work. An engine tilter helps, but you really need more ajustability.

Not portable, but cheap. When I was 24 many years ago, someone gave me a wood power pole. I cut it in two, set them vertically 8 feet apart in the ground, then set a piece of rectangular thick 2x4" steel tubing on top turned narrow side up. Drilled the ends for really long 5/8" lag bolts to lag down into the tops of the poles. Made several thousand dollars changing engines for people with it. Still have the tubing, and I am now 61.
