Have any of you had hoists mounted in your pole buildings if so how did you do this. I am open to anything I was just thinking it may be nice to have some kind of hoist in the barn for light lifting. Curious to see what some of you have done.

My 4 post isn't mounted, but it's in there. As long as the cement floor is poured to follow the suppliers thickness, psi, etc, there should be no problem in mounting a hoist, if that's your preference.

I think he means hoist as in overhead hanging hoist. I wouldn't call a car "light lifting".

I threw a sling and some pulleys around the 2x4 bottom cord of the roof truss to lift the bed off my truck but it's under 300lb. I think anything more in my garage would need ground support.

I do mean overhead lifts sorry for not being clear. I was wondering if anyone has mounted a jib type crane to the posts

I use a chain hoist all the time for "light lifting" off the bottom chord of trusses, but I have a couple of brace posts to put under the cord on each side of the lift to take the load, essentially turning whatever width of the section into a light header. Again, nothing overly serious...probably 600 lbs max.

I ran an I beam across under the rafters. I lag bolted it to the boards running between the poles, and I placed vertical beams under the ends of the I beam to carry the weight.

The thing most people do not think about with a jib style crane is the leverage force on the bottom of the post.
If you put a jib on a pole frame post you will be levering with the pivot at ground level.
When you have the jib 90 degrees to the wall the trusses will help transfer the stress to the far side.
But as you rotate the jib the stress will rotate both at the top and bottom of the post.

The neatest way around this problem I have seen was a wheeled support at the far end of the jib. You did have to clear the floor in an arc but it supported all kinds of weight.

Of course if by "light" you mean under 200 pounds you should be OK.

I've used a chain fall hung from the bottom chord of a residential truss to pull the body off my 78 corvette. The body was gutted but probably weighed in at 350lbs. Short duration lifts of under a few hundred pounds should be fine. If you want to hang something heavy long term, I would be concerned with warping the truss or causing the roof to sag.

I built this for a bud. I was going to do a version of that for myself but stuck with this cobbled up modified A frame. I finally finished the paint after years. The one in the first pic can be rolled up against the wall. My own is not in the way all that much, has some lights and one end is used as a tool bench and power outlet.

Its a must have but I don't use it a lot and decided to keep this and be able to roll it anywhere in the building. I really only have to move it a few ft at most though as all that work of that nature happens there. I like it for taking tractor apart along with a heavy duty cherry picker.

Yes, really good and really strong and cant overload it with a ton hoist, no way.
