This is not at all functional. I spent about $3 on a baking pan and a lid at the GoodWill store. Harbor Freight free screwdrivers, ratchet and sockets from HF $4 set and wrenches from their $5 set. Some spray paint, EMT conduit supports, a hinge, a dog house sticker and some rivets.

Nothing can come out, it is all riveted. A bolt and butterfly nut hold the toolbox to the wheel.


I took it to a couple of cruise nights and everyone stops and asks if this was a factory option. LOL.

Been a long time since I was around a Bug, but the headlights, turnsignals, and the bumper & overriders, all tell me it's a '67. A '62 was the last year that the Wolfsburg crest such-as you have on the toolbox was at the bottom of the hood 'spear.' A '67 should have a diagonal 'Volkswagen' chrome emblem on the rear top-left side engine cover, the '66's had a '1300' emblem.

Our '62 cabriolet, body by Karmann, bought-new, had the schrader valve pressurized white plastic tubular water container for the windshield squirts where you have the baking tin. Earlier models used the spare tire for an air source.

Hazet made two hubcap tool kits, one for the beetle and one for the 356. The beetles said Hazet and the 356 kit said Tourista.

Good eye folks, It is a 67, the headlights with those overrider bumpers give it away every time. The doghouse hood crest went away in early 63. In 67, the hood trim became really skinny.

I got my idea from Hazet. EMPI makes a Hazet knock off but I thought I would make a custom one so that it would match the car color.

About the tourist and Hazet toolboxes, as far as I know it's not vw/356 but sold through the vw/porsche dealer or from Hazet itself/ hardware stores.
