Hi all - I found this site while doing research on yellow plastic gas pipe. I have a house on the beach in Baja California, about 25 miles south of San Felipe on the Sea of Cortez. It is completely off the grid. I get solar, charging 4 golf cart batteries, hooked up to 3 kw pure sine wave inverter, which handles all the lighting & power. The refrigerators & freezers all run on propane, like the oven, water heater, and portable heaters. The water for washing & showers is delivered to 2 huge tinacos on the roof, and the drinking water is from 3 or 5 gallon carboys, reverse osmosis.
When I bought this Mexican brick house about 12 years ago, the gas was piped with 1/2 inch copper, underground, which was done with poor design & totally plugged & useless. I connected 20 gallon outdoor propane tanks by drilling through the brick. I have these outside the kitchen, and outside the pantry with the water heater. Unsightly.
I plan to buy a large (250 liter?) propane tank, which can be filled by the Z truck which comes through the campos every Friday. I originally thought to install black pipe or (preferably) GI pipe, but then I heard about this new-fangled way to connect gas with less hassle. Now I'm interested in MDPE Yellow Plastic Gas Pipe.
I plan to run 1/2" yellow plastic gas pipe from the tank around the outside of the house, just under the eaves. The wind and sandstorms can get severe occasionally, and the summer temps can be 110 or more with very high humidity. Any advice on this? Also, where can I buy small quantities, about 200' of 1/2 inch pipe, and whatever fittings I need to connect to my stuff?
