Thanks for the warm welcome yall! We Texans like that sort a thang!

As far as hobbies I really haven't found my niche yet. I got started in woodworking about 12 or 13 years ago then had kids so that pretty much went by the wayside 3 or 4 years later. But I still have all my stuff. Just haven't used much of it in a while.

Moved into my wife's grandparents house about 2.5 years ago which we are about to buy. A little over an acre of land with nice storage on a slab and a 36x24x10 shop with quite a few leftover tools from my wife's grandfather. Who btw was, as far as I know, a pretty good mechanic/millright type guy. I've spent the last 2.5 years trying to figure out what kind of shop I want it to be if that makes any sense.

I've gained an extreme interest in metal working in all this and probably will lean toward a hybrid type setup. Like woodworking/metal working type thing. And you don't just pick up a hobby like metal working so it's been kind of overwhelming. So I'm just now starting to get ideas and picture the shop in my head. The plan is to spend about 2 years planning and equipping for that. If I can wait that long!!

GJ is amazing with a WEALTH of information. I watched a video on youtube from Duker (I think) on his welding table build and I fell in love with that thing. I clicked on his GJ link and welp there's no going back now! I hope to document this shop redo as I go. Thanks again for the welcomes!

Jeff: yes there are lots of talented members on this forum and a ton of good reads on the threads we already have so enjoy reading and post questions as you have some so the reads will get better.

i have been sort of a handyman since i bought my house 30 years ago and then had 5 kids that always gave me challenges and some help making changes and repairs.

My kids are almost grown now and only two left at home while they are finishing up their college so i'm hoping to move some day in the near future and have a nice combo wood and metal shop.

care to share a before picture of your shop or shed as you call it so you'll know how to post pictures?

best of luck and maybe see you on a few threads because i tend to move around, but mostly like the new vintage tool section and vise threads.

Yes sir I sure will get some pics up. I'm bad about documenting progress, but this is going to be a pretty long process so I'll try to squeeze it in there. Also not home much right now because of work so I've got to schedule the shop time in between family time...

And wow 5 kids! I wish we could have more (we have 2 girls), but we can't.

Thanks for the guidance! I'm sure this won't be the last time we run across each other.

Jeff: sounds like you'll do fine here. don't get me wrong 5 kids was Chaos some days. now with all of them with their spouses and grand kids at Christmas and Thanksgiving it is like a good symphony with a little hard rock mixed in. two would have been plenty and will keep you and your wife plenty busy.

have fun catching up on the reading and learning and now that you are a member you can now ask questions if you can't find the answers. i ask a lot of questions and usually learn something every day if not more on here.

post a picture of your car, pet or favorite picture if you don't have one of your shop just so you know how to. pictures with questions always get better answers and replies.

take care

Duker: nice that you found Jeff's post. too funny. i'm getting ready to build these tables so care to share the link to your thread on yours that you built?

I have to admit it was a surprise to see my name....

As for my welding table I have the link in my signature to the GJ thread and a YouTube video if you want to check it out. There are also a couple of dedicated threads on here and Welding Web that have some great ideas for tables.
