Sabre saw has some problems and I seriously don't need any more handheld power tools at all.

In the hour it has been up I still have yet to find a single reason why this shouldn't be in my shop though...

Pictures for posterity if I don't get there first. It's midnight

Good old, tools but not worth much money. Many parts will not be available anymore.

If you need and can use them and they are cheap then go for it

SC: I bought the jig (saber) saw you have in the picture maybe 35 years ago at a garage sale for $7 and it is still my favorite hand jig saw and if i take my time on my cuts it rarely dulls a blade.

i probably have all of those and i would say to buy them especially since you like old craftsman tools.

cheers and good luck

SC: so it was midnight, but not that time now so did you buy them?

I've heard you can get a nice little shock from aluminum tools, but to this day i have yet to get one from one and I've used more than a few. check wires on cords to make sure not cut and replace if necessary.

and if you want to be saved go in the shop and work on one of those awesome tools you restored or restore another one.

cheers

Dude, you're asking the wrong group of enablers to teach you restraint.
Why isn't that case in your shop yet ? :lol_hitti

SC: didn't know you were working on Saturday like i have for a lot of my life too.

if these sell before you get there i'm sure you'll find others and now you know that Craftsman's old tools really were good enough to have a lifetime warranty especially without abuse or user errors.

Jake: have you seen Twerty's tool box video on the toolbox thread? even my head was spinning after getting about half way through.

calling us enablers isn't quite true, but damn close because we are not using our money. :D

Concerning your vintage power tools, there is a good market for them. However, the market is limited to collectors. The price, condition, & owners manuals/boxes are a plus. However (IMO), they are undervalued, like vises.

Here's some pros & cons:
Pros; They're cool...to the point that your friends will envy you, bulletproof...will last forever, and easy to repair... I've only replaced brushes & cords, and lubricated them.
Cons; They're heavy as hell, vibration is a problem, and they aren't as safe as the newer tools...electrically & mechanically.

As far as the electrical goes, if the cord/plug isn't grounded, you can replace it with a grounded cord assembly and attach the ground wire inside the metal housing. That will eliminate that occasional shock you may get from those tools under the right conditions.

I have all of my Dad's tools from the 50s - 70s, which I'll never get rid of. The cords have been replaced as needed. However, I also have a collection of cheap power tools acquired from yard sales over the past several years that are lighter to use, and won't bum me out if they burn up or get stolen.

Happy Trails!

Pass, power tools are one thing that has really come a long way, especially specialty saws.

I have the sander and had the jigsaw at some point, they are HEAVY being all metal but cool tools none the less, if the price was right, and I were you, I would pick them up.

The sander is a workhorse.

My Dad bought that cabinet set and he wore out all three of the tools. I still have the cabinet. They were good looking tools, but I remember that they weren't all that good. I don't miss them. Use them for displays.
