Hole Hawgs

Just out of curiousity, are you pro sparks running your hole-hawgs much these days ?

Between daredevil bits,small compact driver seems to be faster drilling holes IMO than a HH. Well, until you need to start making 3"+ holes...

Darerdevil bits IMO has surpassed ~old skool ship augers~ .
It's faster with the DD for sure.

I use spade bits most of the time. no real need for much else imo.

Not a pro but I drill a lot of holes and put in a lot of wire... and I use the Daredevil's exclusively.

I have two Dewalt DWD460's, I run the Irwin self-feed bits in like these for 2" and bigger holes for plumbing/electrical conduit/etc.

Last time I used it, it was for drilling 2-9/16" holes in a 12" thick oak beam!

I use my Milwaukee fuel cordless with a Greenlee 11/16 18'' auger. that way i dont need a ladder to drill through the top plate on a wall. Been using all cordless for the last 5 or 6 years. Would like to get a cordless hole hawg but they are pretty expensive here.

I have a few Milwaukee cordless hole hawgs I've been using but I still go back to the corded hole shooter and 18" ships auger bit. They're fairly cheap and reduces the need for a ladder in most places.

I used to use my 18v milwaukee for for most of my hole drilling up to 1 1/2",But Im getting tired of having to replace drills every year .
They dont make them like they used to I guess.
My super hawg is too damn heavy to lug around all day,Im going to have to break down and buy another regular hole hawg.

Stick with the cordless drill. I bought the cordless hole hog and find myself getting the corded drill out after the bit gets stuck in anything bigger than 3 studs. It has no power in reverse

46 years ago I spent many hours on a six foot ladder with my 1972 model Miluakee I/2 " 600 RPM "D" handle drill with my trusty Greenless 7/8 in. ship auger bit. Just stick the screw of the bit in the wood joists and it will pull itself in. A great thing when one drills thousands of holes in joists/studs for romex while reaching overhead. And the old "d" handle will throw the user off the ladder if the bit gets bound up, I found that out one day.

I remember getting tossed off a ladder by a hole hawg many years ago thinking I could stretch out and drill the last hole without a handle on it.

Anyone ever try using an impact driver with an auger? Mine works pretty well drilling holes in wood with smaller bits and paddle bits, but have not tried an auger.
