Can you guys give me any info on this vise? It is on an upcoming auction and I have never seen a vise with this type of base to attach it.

Looks like a combination vise with the pipe jaws missing. That is a type of early swivel base. The Record 634S is a larger example. Check out the catalogs found in user CwazyRabbit's signature for picture.

Furbis: what would you like to know? Holland's was one of the finest vise manufactures of the early 20th century. that vise is a bolt through the bench swivel vise that might be early 1900's. it looks in pretty decent shape, but it is missing it's pipe jaws. not really a collectable, but a vise worth having.

don't spend more than a benjamin and you should be ok for value.

anything specific more you'd like to know just ask and if i don't know maybe another vise guy will.

here's my Reed 31 that is a very close US example and maybe as close to the same as a Holland's vise as you'll get.

I think early Reed's may be so close to Holland's because the founder of Reed used to work at Holland's.

Thank you guys, I had no specific questions just wanted to learn any information you guys could share with me. I will look it over again but think I can get it for $50 or less, there are several newer craftsman vises on the same auction.

Furbis: i'd buy the Holland's all day long for that price especially if Craftsmans are newer than 1980's. the 1950 Craftsman vises that are 519x's series are another matter and might be one of the best vises for it's size made.

good luck

BB: i knew there was a relationship and couldn't recall what it was. thanks

Love my Reeds, and own 1 Hollands, posted in another thread wondering the connection. The two are just too close for coincedence. And, FYI they are, in MY mind the best out there.
