Hey guys
i acquired a Holands vise. It has 4 1/2 " jaws and opens to 13". It is model number 264 1/2. It is mounted to some metal platform, my question is what is the platform for? I am looking to sell the vise and was wondering should I take it off of the platform and sell that separately? What would you consider each worth?

Thanks Ed

I've never seen a vise platform like that, let alone the vise. Thanks for sharing. Is the platform cast iron? I bet it's worth some buks!

Yes it is cast. I tried finding some info on the base and the vise and very little available online. Hollands was apparently a company that made cast items early in the 1900"2, that is all I could find.

Being a sheet metal vise, it is not worth as much as the standard machinist's style. However, it is a unique package and I would say $200 or so is about what you should ask for the set. You'll likely get haggled down from there.

The first thing I thought of when I saw the base is it was used in some sort of nautical application: Support some piece of equipment on a ship, either above or below decks.

I'm not sure about the grinder thing, it's just kinda of shaped weird on top. Like the ship idea, it's probably some proprietary piece and the top is long gone.
Thanks for the input.

Hey all
I just refinished the vise. I painted it a blue from 1967 Pontiac motors. I used the engine enamel. I am very happy with how it came out.

Very nicely done!
It cleaned up very well and hopefully without any
drama. Once you mentioned the vise color, then
it clicks.....that's what the color reminds me of.
I have not seem many sheet metal vises so yours
is a nice surprise. Glad you decided to keep it.

Thanks for the nice comments Craig. It went really smooth, never disassembled a vise before but it certainly was difficult.

I know this is a 6 year old post but I know what that stand is, it's for a Foley Belsaw saw sharpener, I have the exact same one. I was looking for Hollands vises and came across this post.
