Wow that guy should have spent the morning with me; I picked up a handful of about 60 used drill bits and another handful of old american sockets all for $12.00 dollars. I walked past some craftsman socket sets that he could have had for under $40.00 dollars.

I wonder if all the tools are C-series and original? Even if they were - and the condition is excellent - that's a lot of cake.

Note to self, one more option for early retirement if I stumble upon these at a yard sale. Have to add this to the list along with the blue handled Snap On ratchets and the Craftsman RHFT ratchets. :beer:

If a doctor and a lawyer both want the same item, and don't have time or the willingness to wait until the next item shows up... sometimes they'll bid to own it. Dunno who bought that set, but they either wanted it badly, or else they have plenty of money to dispose of.

Quite possible they wanted it to give as a gift... I've bought many items that I would never spend that much for myself, but as a gift, for someone that appreciates it, sure, why not?

It would have to take two bidders to get the value that high... Two people wanted to (almost) that much for it. You have to have money to burn because you could put that money towards some serious iron that would broaden you abilities and that is just a socket set you will possibly never use. We have to be missing something here.

I'm pretty sure those tools will never be used. At that price, they are a prize that is going to be in a trophy display case somewhere.

Just imagine how many sets of miscellaneous Craftsman sockets will pop up on ebay with $900 BIN prices in the next few weeks.

If it makes you happy it's not stupid. Serious Craftsman collectors going at it. I am a collector but use all my stuff, that's why I stick with =V= stuff. I believe that set is very early around 1932 or a little later and the condition is amazing considering we are talking about tools.

Third parties were contacting winning bidders and either offering like products or to give their 2 cent if the bidder overpaid. Sometimes the winning bidders would get threats from losing bidders.

Before the change, I had some of my winning auctions poisoned by these third party players.

This is exactly what I was thinking as well. Some idiots will put up old rusty pieces of junk up that are similar for $900 BIN now.

eBay wanted to separate bidders from each other for many reasons. It eliminates collusion. It prevents you from checking on what other bidders are also bidding on. It prevents side deals. It removes the advantage savvy users had over others.

Isn't that the truth, I always liked to see what people I was bidding against were buying and paying and how they bid, i.e. in the last 3 seconds or 3 days ahead of time.
