Seriously, why not collect tools? Makes a lot more sense to me than collecting Beanie babies, Barbies, soda and beer cans; even pop tops! Not to mention some of the other drivel people find fascinating.

I have far more tools than I would ever need to do the job at hand most of the time. but I happen to like the "Long C" craftsman and Plvmb tools for instance, they have a character and a style that the uber polished chrome tools don't. Nothing wrong with chrome either, but I grew up using WWII and Korea era tools, and they speak to me in a way that polished chrome does not.

If you are not a collector of any sort, no one can explain it to you, so let me ask you that very question: do you collect anything? Or are you a mimimalist sort of person?

No far from a minimalist. I have a LOT of tools but I use them. I buy what I need and if there are duplicates it is tools used the most and can go on the road or car to car at the shop. Less trips to the box type of thing. I have tools that I probably dont need every day but it may make my job easier the next day. I just never saw tools as a collectors items but a way to make a living or make my job easier. I have thousands invested and really dont plan on selling them unless Im dead and then I dont care I guess. I have mostly Snap On AND Cornwell because I understand quality and do not buying it twice because I bought ****. I collected baseball cards as a kid and still have them. I guess I am a tool user and not a collecter. I just do not understand buying tools to look at thats all. Thats what I dont get. But to each his own and there are lot of far worse things to spend money on. So collect on my friends. Who knows maybe I will start buying every color Snap On screwdriver set.:)

What makes you think these don't get used? I use my "collector" tools all the time. Some of them are over 100 years old. Many, if not most of them are older than I am. Will I use them where I need to to abuse them a bit to get the job done? Of course not, that's what the "daily drivers" are for.

I don't use my tools to "make money" unless you count when I fix something up to resell, so I guess I don't view them as a means to an end, but as part of the journey.

Jeff I did not count the Bell System drivers I have pending shipment to you, nor the couple of other drivers I have for sale.

I did count the screw starter drivers though...

I don't understand reserve price auctions at all.

Well even if their reserve isnt met you can still do second chance offers after all is said and done. Reserve auctions also get interest, high initial starting prices dont.

okie dokey. I hobbled downstairs to the catacombs. Normally, on the higher drawers, I get on a ladder to get a pic, although I dont think the dokter would appreciate that now. I pulled the drawers out. This does not include the drivers in the truck - about 16 or so, the ones in all the other buggies, and random ones laying around.

Not counting the nutdrivers.
Can't give a total till i can get to the truck.

Nice...you must really like those Lenox 6 in 1 drivers lol

ah, Lenox is chinese. seems that the Klein's are still made here.
I'm thinking about acquiring personalized multi's from this countries hardware stores.

I am at work...I'm in IT so I spend the day on the computer.
Klein's 5 in 1 and 6 in 1 are still US made, I believe. The newer multi-bit ones are made in China or Taiwan. I was at the electrical supply house at lunchtime and spoke with the Klein rep, he said they are bringing all the multi-bit driver production to the US by the end of the year.
Oh yeah, I forgot to take pictures of the 12 or so 2 in 1 drivers I have purchased from local hardware stores. I even bought one from Harry Epstein!

I think i have around 130... at least of them are ****, though.

You guys gave me something to do this weekend: Trim down my collection to just the Wera, Wiha, Felo, Fuller, and Carlyle drivers. :D

Got any Snap-on? :)

Only one... blue SDD4. Actually just went out in the mail yesterday, though, sorry. :(

Not much of what i'll be clearing out is great. I might move the Fullers and the Vacos.

This is/was my "random driver drawer." The Craftsmans are all gone. I'll keep the two Wiha Soft Finishes, everything else will probably go. I believe the wood handle is a Mac.

Everything has a price.

Lol was only kidding.......or was I?? hmmm....lol
In all seriousness though the only things I'm missing in the yellow stuff is cabinet drivers and oddball ratcheting screwdrivers. I'll find em....someday I hope.
But man, I've seen bits and pieces of your hard handled setup....I have a feeling your count would shame us all lol

You don't have a yellow ratcheting driver? I have one or two, we now get new ones in yellow here. (Same shape.)

I have a feeling it something like 200-220, but it's been so long since i even tried to count i'm probably way off and have half that or something.

Yes, I have a couple yellow ratcheting drivers, regular one and a pistol grip. Looking for the stubby, 8 inch, t handles and 24 inch ones. They've been on eBay but they'd have to come with 24k gold shafts for me to pay the prices they go for! Still looking for that pesky Honda one. Tried to snipe one but 3G connection died and missed it  but like anything, patience will prevail.....that's what I keep telling myself anyways.
200-220 hey? That'd be one heck of a lot of hard handled goodness right there

Forgot about that, i'll be on the lookout again for the Honda one.

Those yellow ones go for scary money, waaaaaaaaay out of the limit's i'll even think about, and far out of my payscale.

Oh yes, there are lots. Most are in the toolbox at work, some are "spares" and others i bought just because i like them, but have never been used.

Cool, thanks! There seem to be fewer and fewer circulating even in the uk these days. Guess that's the nature of a limited run.
I've done the same thing with some of my screwdriver sets but for me, I think it's time I trim the fat, so to speak. Have more tools that I need and I also need the drawer space! The ratcheting screwdriver assortment I have doesn't take up a lot of room so at least I can have as many of those as I like lol.

Where did you see that?

In the center of the picture with all of the hard handle tools underneath the description of that ended auction you just posted.

It is has an Orange Hard Handle you can see it below the Orange hard handle screw drivers in the trays and towards the bottom right of the quick cutter

that's a caliper adjustment tool If I'm looking at the right item. I have one with a magnetic extension. it'll accept 5/16 hex bits.

Looks cool but to bad the handle is so close to the head of the driver.
Looks like the handle would get in the way and interfere with clearance in a lot of confined space's.

Then again I am thinking of the right angle version for some reason but with the 25* angle head the handle probably isnt an issue

have to say it is awkward in some situations due to the length and size if the handle and the ratcheting action is pretty coarse. Mine has come in handy a couple times but I'm sure I could have gotten away with using another tool. I only picked mine up because it was cheap but I've never seen another with the same extension i have though. not sure if it's even a snap on part. :dunno:

I was just confusing it with the right angle version since that is what I use most.

All screwdrivers...I counted 195 TOTAL in my basement :)

I should be working, not counting screwdrivers, but I couldn't resist......

320

Flat, Phillips, Reed & Prince (who uses those anymore?), offset, ratcheting, multi-tip (counted handles only), Torx, Robertson, clutch-head, jeweler's, and pocket screwdrivers.

But I'm older and have been "accumulating" a lot longer than Jeff has. ;)

And I can stop any time. :lol_hitti
