Thanks for the thoughtful response. At work, we have quite a bit of space and everyone's jobs end up sprinkled throughout, so I actually roll my 56" KRL1022 around the shop and go sans tool cart. I'm looking for something to set up as a computer/diagnostic/oscilloscope/writing cart. I want to get my electronicals and more fragile things out of my main box and have some extra space in each. I'll have plenty of room to put it out of the way or roll it right up to a car. That said, I want it to be something I can move around a little quicker than my big ol' roll cab.
I'm going to eventually mount an LCD on whatever I end up with - and possibly build a boom for the scope. I think a small roll cab or a slide top makes the best sense. The slide top will probably be mostly closed most of the time.
I've basically narrowed it down to three options (although I'm always open to suggestions) :
1. U.S General 26" and possibly build a fold out extended wood surface. Not a ton of space, but inexpensive and functional. Not as tall as I want. I'm 6'4" and I don't like leaning over.
2. The Homak full drawer slide top cart. Bigger, no modification required, and probably better quality. Obviously I don't need anything super heavy duty, but I like overkill. Apparently sold by the truck brands as well. This sale is making me lean this way. I did get an email back from Homak stating they measured the 35" 6 drawer sliding top cart and it is 42" tall with casters, 36" tall without.
3. A green Snap on KRSC430 with stainless top that's up for sale locally asking $750. This is probably too big for my purposes/ desired mobility, but I believe it's the foundation for some of their diagnostic/scanner carts. This one is 40" wide and 46" tall. No questions about durability. The price difference from the NAPA cart to this - especially if a lesser offer was accepted - make it hard for me not to buy it... I'm just a sucker for deals. I own a bunch of used stuff that I could sell for more than I paid, including my KRL, ha.
For the reasons of space, mobility, working height, cost, and having something that appears more professional to customers than a Harbor Freight box, the Homak is what I'm leaning toward... but on the other hand I would have a bunch of fun modifying a cheaper toolbox beyond what is necessary just because I don't care about devaluing it.
I wish there was somewhere near me that actually carried the Homak/NAPA line so I could handle it in person before making a decision. I'm also not certain whether they charge shipping fees.
As you might be able to tell by now, I truly enjoy completely overthinking decisions like this.
