So was anyone able to get a second set of slides for the top drawer for the 54" box?

I havent searched, mines sliding fine and pretty loaded. To much more weight however and I'd feel a little concerned so I might call and ask them within the next month or so

Mine arrived today via RAC. The freight guy was really cool & suggested I open at least the lower 'cause it had some damage to the carton. We tore it open but it looked great.

I didn't bother w the top while he was here but turns out it took a good hit to the rear of the lid on one side, knocking the whole lid askew.

This would be my advice to anyone getting the combo w the upper: check the lid condition and operation closely.

Anyway I'm not a tool polisher and the damage is either on the rear of the box or rear (bottom) of the lid, so it'll never be seen in use.

I used a piece of their enclosed marketing material (LOL) as a buffer and beat the big dents back into "better" with a dead blow, then took a 36" clamp to pull the lid back into place.

Voila, done and functioning nicely

It was really QUITE BAD before I started, many people here woulda lost their **** and immediately returned it. All I really care is that it works and I'm a little concerned about stock-outs so I'm keeping it!

Unfortunate for sure, glad to hear you turned it around and made the best out of it. The green looks absolutely fantastic, I really like all the colors and the paint looks great on every box I've seen thus far. Who did ya end up buying through again?

I just went straight thru Homak. They still aren't charging tax on their site.

I kinda forgot about the Napa rewards program but I don't trust their program and I try not to shop at my local Need A Part *******. Plus when I called them asking if they could get ANY color they said they'd look into it but didn't call me back as they said they would.

Sometimes a single unreturned phone call loses a sale.

Nice! I also went through Homak, free shipping and no tax like you said. Plus I also didn't have to deal with my local Need a Part ******* (Though I called them, and the other two "near" me to no avail)

Excited to load it up? I think with the combo top/bottom you lose my favorite feature, the stainless top!!

I finally got mine today, top box is perfect but the bottom box is going to have to be replaced. It apparently wasn't properly placed on the pallet causing the lower front lip to get dented/bent up. One of the casters also took a hit during shipping which bent the channel its mounted on to the point the caster now sits tilted 20-25* off. I contacted my Napa rep and am currently waiting on a phone call to find out what I/we need to do. I'm a bit frustrated as its taken a few weeks longer to get in than I was originally told but it will be taken care of one way or another.

Yeah I was a little surprised they ship w casters attached. They just elevate it enough on a pallet that the casters are dangling, but on my pallet one of the lower boards was ripped off, causing the pallet to list severely and the casters on that side (the front!) were just barely off the ground.

I actually looked for damage just as you experienced, but somehow my casters (and the underlying support structure) seem fine - pure luck

So was anyone able to get a second set of slides for the top drawer for the 54" box?
I recently called Homak about the second set of slides and they sent some out (part# AC601). I only questioned it because someone else I know bought the 72” and the top drawer had 4 slides. I thought it was odd that his had 4 and mine only had 2 when the drawers were identical.

I have the 72 and 54...I was surprised that the 54 only had single slides. I’m guessing since it’s a smaller box they don’t think you need the dual slides...I’m going to get a second set. Thanks for the part number.

This was sketchy, but I was in a hurry and it worked

Also here's where my pallet lost a board causing it to list. You can see those casters still had some clearance but it certainly seems to render them more vulnerable to shipping damage

Same thing with mine, it rocked pretty good and was missing some of the wood from the side of the pallet, I was shocked that they shipped the top and bottom stacked. At a glace, everything seemed ok until we got it off the pallet. I have an idea how this could be addressed but I didn't pay for a scratch and dent box.

I'm still waiting to find out what is going to happen, as of right now I have received very little communication.

They need to look at the packaging on the master force boxes I think you would have to drop it from pretty high to damage the box.

I do think they can AFFORD to improve the packaging. If you read this thread start to finish they've gotta be losing a good bit of $$ on freight damaged (and thus returned) merchandise.

Mine weren't stacked though, 2 separate pallets. Was it *packaged* as such? Freight guys will try to stack anything they can.

Nope, top box stacked on top of the bottom box with a cardboard type pallet between them, top box and bottom box banded to each of their pallets with plastic banding. Steal banding wrapped around the top and bottom box keeping them together with Homak labeled (thick cardboard) corner protectors that were one piece top to bottom on all four corners then the entire package was wrapped with clear plastic.

I bit better packaging would save them in replacement costs, but there again, I have no clue what their actual "cost" on these boxes are.

Well hydraulics were once again my friend today. I slid the top chest into place with my Kubota but the margin for error is slim. I didn't get it quite centered and it's too heavy to move on my own. I left the mat in place and that was pretty much the problem - couldn't slide the top chest.

So I attached the handles and raised it w my 2 post to get it just right.

The 41" RS series side cabs will fit and are punched to match up w the handles on the lower roller cab. They do not have the correct holes to mount to the top chest but I'm not going to bother.

I got this one a few months ago on Amazon for $188 so I think I'll just use it. Has two drawers down low and 2 adjustable shelves.

Hey I'm always in favor of child labor but they're still damn expensive to have around. I couldn't afford this box if I had kids ;)

Well I started loading the Homak last. Always amazed at how long reorganization takes.

Anyway, a few observations in comparison to my old 54" KRL:
- the drawer slides on the Snappy are much larger than the Homak slides
-too many shallow drawers on the Homak lower roller cab for my liking but I can adapt
-the 72" Homak empty is noticeably harder to roll around than my 54" Snappy loaded. I almost swapped casters between the 2 but in 13 years my KRL never moved and neither will the Homak. Still, I don't think the Homak "Pro" would be a good choice for a pro who needs to move his box around. Then again I don't know how many people are rolling 72" anythings around shops or factories.

None of this is surprising, and the Homak will work great for my needs.

I wish Snappys were more affordable and I'd have a 72" or 84" myself. But there's absolutely NO NONE ZERO reason some sheetmetal run thru a brake with drawer slides and paint should cost $8k to $20k.

The mark-up on tool truck boxes is INSANE. For $8k you can buy (and I did) a NEW import knee mill with 3-axis DRO, variable speed head, several hundred moving parts and tables and ways precision ground within tenths of a thousandth.

In comparison a toolbox is caveman technology, much much easier to build and requires a fraction of the material

Is the drawer action and stability comparable to the snappy?

Is it being harder to roll due to its size and possibly not the casters? Combined with no weight I think that makes sense. Loaded down the boxes seem to glide around the shop and a large top and bottom box should be harder to roll around than the smaller box, or at least more awkward. My 54" homak box pushes along fine. Its actually why I ended up with it and not the 72", because I have to move it around a shop on a few times a day. Loaded down with the handle on it, I enjoy moving it around.

I worked outta my bosses box for a portion of Friday because my box was down at the other end of the shop where I was waiting on parts for a VW and it was just convenient. I gotta say...I don't think there's anything that will ever compare. The drawers on his box glide like a warm knife through butter. There's no resistance, no off balance wobble, its unmatched in my experience. I worked outta one previously at my last job, but now playing with them both side by side its tough. They do a good job there, I'll give Snap on that.

My homak box is awesome and the drawers close excellently and feel great, there's no resistance but its not quite the same. I cant put my finger on how I'd describe them in comparison other than "Nice and adequate" but the large drawer does seem "unbalanced" if i push it from off center (Tho I have it loaded slightly off too one side as well) but all the other drawers are balanced very well.

Thanks. It’s hard because I can’t get my hands on a lot of boxes to compare. The baselines for me now are the newer Husky and of course HF boxes. Local NAPA has a 72” Homak but it’s packahed and they won’t let me check it out.

So I looked at that while moving my tools over today. I'd say stability is "very close" on the Homak.

I did find that when heavily loaded the Homak drawers are noticeably harder to close. Still smooth, but there's definitely some resistance compared to an equally loaded Snappy drawer.

That said, there's a possibility the Homak slides will break in? I don't know if that really happens with ball bearing slides?

Bottom line I'm not sure comparing "action" or "feel" to slides from 2003 to new slides with less than a day of use is entirely accurate....but maybe

It's not entirely relevant to the 72" RS Pro but I put my big pullers in the side cab. These have always cluttered the floor around or under my old box so it's nice to straighten up the floor ;)

I’ve found the blue at HF is really close to the Homak. I used the same phone camera both in areas with little or no light, approx same distance from the surface so even the flash is consistent.

They are close enough I figured for $200 I ordered the side locker. Should be in Friday so I’ll try to get pics up this weekend. If it is too far off I’ll just return it.

According to my measurements, the bottom of the box and the locker will be within a half inch. I can live with that, considering one can buy three HF lockers for the price of one Homak. I know the Homak it a little larger and better quality but realistically I’m putting power tools, cases, and bags in it. Not that heavy or that serious.

Someone posted about this in post #413. According to that post, part # AC601. I haven't seen anyone source and install a pair on the top drawer of the 54" cabinet but I'm interested since I may be buying one soon.

The Homak side cab I pictured is a little weird IMO - specifically the door is not reversible and it has to be opened damn near 180 to open the lower drawers.

Reversing the door would be no easy feat and even if successful your go-fast stripes would no longer line up. SOOOO....in that case you'd think you could just flip the whole cab but the lower drawers are essentially welded in and the hanging bar is also welded in (I think they shoulda at least made the hanging bar removeable)

It's otherwise nice. I'll be curious to know how yours arrives. I actually ordered 2 of these from Amazon - neither was AWD, just typical weird Amazon falling prices. Both had some considerable damage to the same areas - mostly lower rear.

The yellow one I got for $113 and I just couldn't say no at that price. In contrast the orange International side cab opposite it here has the door fully reversible and the hanging bar can be repositioned or removed entirely:

Once my 54 arrives I'll be adding the second set of sliders because I already know the top drawer will be loaded.

Post your experience please. Including where you source the slides and if the drawers are fully punched/ready for install of the additional slides.

Well today was the Pitt, literally. Got a call from Pitt in Ohio Wednesday about my delivery between 10a-2pm Thursday or today 2-7-19. Went to location and moved a job out that I was working on, silly me I should have called them to confirm this morning. I got busy prepping wife (handicapped) and forgot - Hell you are a business I take you for your word. Failed to get the first womans name at Pitt.

At 2:15p called them to find out --- they didn't have a lift gate truck so they did not ship!!!!!!! WTH, what do you mean you did not ship?@$#@%@#R$

Needless to say, if Homak tells you Pitt in Ohio is the carrier. Request someone else.

We will see what happens Friday - and I will be calling first light to confirm. My time is valuable. But what happened to business courtesy? Homak told me once shipped it was out of their hands, not happy with that response either. This box better exceed my expectations.
