Yes, I think I could be happy there. It would never stay that clean though. I would probably prefer some taller doors though.

That reminds me of a place we came across recently while looking for our next joint. Driving past the sign at the street all it said was “10 car garage”.......the wife was pretty pissed when I pulled a Dan Short and backed up. :)

I'm not a fan of a place that has garage doors as the predominant feature.... But to each his own I guess.

The garage is awesome, but the full basement seals the deal. You can retreat underground in the cold weather. Full basement in that ranch - whew.

"integrated nicely into the homes design" ? Looks like an industrial building with some nice siding, and a house tacked onto the back as an afterthought.

Not that they need to be a predominant feature but it sure nice driving straight into the garage. Don’t want to have to make a sharp right turn or anything to get into the garage plus I back at 24 foot trailer into our garage so I like it.

Do not like the garage doors on face, put them on the side. 4br and 4bath with 4k sq ft on an acre you can find all over Delaware, location depends. In dover 500k is reasonable, in Hockessin you are pushing 800k

Haha I know all about that Dover to Hockessin market difference! I'm selling my home in Smyrna and moving to Phoenixville, PA. Quite the difference in home values.

here is the answer !!!
https://www.crookedbrains.net/2011/06/hidden-car-garage-designs.html

When we lived back in IL, they built a large house down the road. An entire section of the front wall rotated into the garage ceiling retrieving a 3 car garage door opening...

It was phenomenal installation !!!

My thoughts also. Looks like somebody drew up the garage and then remembered there needs to be a house too. Makes the house look like an afterthought

I'll finance that in a heartbeat IF i could! Given the choice of that or the cookie cutter 2.5 garage setup that normally faces the street, I'll take the 8 car house!

I agree but it has become so common place here that I'm numb to it now. I think that's partially due to the number of attached RV garages in my neighborhood. Here's my neighbors as an example.

That looks horrible^^^. Absolutely no cohesion to the design and zero attempt to integrate all the rooflines into something resembling a plan. Ironically, neighborhoods like that probably have hyper-aggressive HOAs that worry about every little thing but somehow allow 15' high garage doors that make the homes look like service stations. If you have the money for a $100,000+ RV, you have the money to store it offsite. Or here's an idea: fly to your destination and stay in a hotel.

I agree with the exterior design being awful and having no cohesion.
But with your last point... There's people who actually enjoy taking roadtrips with an RV. Flying and staying in a hotel is a whole different kind of trip/vacation/experience.

Well, I already have the lot and and that price minus the dirt under the structure is in my budget, now all I need is someone to build it for me. The interior, as well as the full unfinished basement would be perfect for my family. The only thing I would change is a gable roof instead of hip and fully stick built with none of this 24" OC truss **** which it almost certainly has.

Personally I'm not a fan of it. I don't like having my workshop attached to the house and would prefer it to be separate and behind the house. Our realtor found us a couple a few years ago when we were house hunting and I wouldn't even go look at them because they didn't appeal to me. A guy built a large six-car onto his home in our last neighborhood and it just looked like a monstrosity and was an eye sore.

Same here. For a 4000sqft (and potentially 7000sqft with a finished basement) home it is pretty unimpressive looking. And the rear has a huge roof. With 1 acre a side load garage with more home frontal area would have looked better. Then again, the front of my house looks not that much different (2 8' doors, 1 16' door). But it is a 2 story so the front isn't totally dominated by garage doors.

May or may not depend on zoning, hoa, etc issues not allowing detached garages.

I know there was a development built near me about 10 years back where almost all the homes had what looked like a detached garage but it was connected to the house by a tiny archway/roof type thing that was about 8-10' long.

Thankfully no HOA, the developer reached out to the hood to start one and it was squashed in quick order! Initially the RV garages were offensive to my eye but they are the new normal now so I don't notice them so much. This particular neighbor is retired and uses his motorhome regularly.

I can certainly see the draw to having the garage and the RV on site, the cost for offsite would make me want to sell the RV. Same with my boat, it sits by the house but if I didn't have the space at home I would sell it.

Man you guys are harsh regarding your elevations. Sitting here thinking how I would love/hate to hear what you guys would say about some of the houses in my "neighborhood". :lol_hitti
