Hi guys. I made a video of my home built scissor lift in action. Real happy with it.It is making working on cars a lot easier and cleaning the underside almost enjoyable. Here it is. . Jim
Jim, that's fantastic!
Amazing work and great results. I'm going to go back and look at your earlier threads about the lift.
Now I'll open up the floor for people to tell you how dangerous it is, how their lifts are better, how you should have done things differently, what you didn't consider, etc. This is the Internet after all:
"How many forum users does it take to change a lightbulb?"
1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed
14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently
7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs
1 to move it to the Lighting section
2 to argue then move it to the Electricals section
7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs
5 to flame the spell checkers
3 to correct spelling/grammar flames
6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid
2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"
15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct
19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum
11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum
36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty
7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs
4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's
3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group
13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"
5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy
4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"
13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"
1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again.
Hi jimgood .if I built it again I would change a few things..so I spared someone some of my learning mistakes.lol. It does what I wanted it to do.It sits flush in the floor.I built a stainless steel frame around the hole in the floor so it wouldn't rust. Put a 55 gal plastic barrel in the ground for a holding tank if I were to get water in the hole.Did a lot of things that probably didn't need done but I tend to go over board.. It's a curse
I have a 3 phase pump unit I got for free to power it. I am planing on running a auxiliary line off it to power my press.I have a remote pendant wired in so I will be able to reach the press and also walk around the car to position things when setting blocks or what ever.
Yes took several tries at getting a release to work. I'll take some pics tomorrow of it. Safety locks work good. This was the hardest thing to design.I wanted electric instead of air so I could use a pendant.I could have used electric over air but would require having air turned on and hooked up ect... Electric is on all the time with this.
I have about 800 in it with cement and stainless around pit. The cylinders were free.I had to cut them down.the pump was free. Pendant and cable were free. The arms were used ship channel that I boxed in.Heavy.. I am lucky to have friends that have tons of stuff just waiting for someone to need what they have then give it to me. I do machining for them in trade.works out great. The cement work was free.Traded some machining of bushings and wheels for his concrete saws. Had a couple hours in that trade.
J. King great job on the lift build. I was designing my own lift and trying to make it but I am no machinest so it ended up a dead project. I did end up buying a Snap-On dual full rise scissor lift that I did install in my garage. I use it pretty often.
This is such an awesome idea, thanks for sharing. It's good to know that with my hack skills and nothing to trade it would cost about 2k and result in certain death. Results- you have saved lives, time, and money for the similarly unskilled with delusional ideas!
