I've seen a few industry explanations for why they issue takedown notices:

1> The ads are copyright, and publishing them without authorization is a violation of that
2> They have deals with the newspapers - maybe BF ads drive some newspaper sales?
3> They don't want the ads out there early, giving competitors an opportunity to meet/beat deals they may have

I'd suspect 3 is probably one of the most viable reasons, but, seriously, with two weeks to go, being that the ads have already been distributed to the various outlets that will be issuing them, that it's not nearly as much of an issue as they make it out to be.

Considering these print ads are being distributed (mostly) via newspaper, you'd think they'd come up with a better means of advertising, considering that print news is a dying medium, though, I do believe most of these folks will post the ad on their website about the same time as the print gets officially distributed.

For me, I agree - the earlier I can see the ads, the better, so I can plan any potential Black Friday outing accordingly.

Also right now in the holiday stuff they’ve got the yellow 2”x27’ ratchet straps at $8.88, Husky branded. Anything under $10 ea is great for any strap of this variety. Although last year for BF TSC did ‘em $7 ea and free shipping on BF only, if’n you didn’t want to go to the store. The handles on the Huskys look nicer, though.

If you own a real-man trailer get after it!

Menards runs those at $7.99 or something once and a while.

I missed the HD ad listing on the site, I guess I'll have to wait for the legit one to come out.

1 - they only seem to care about this one ad, otherwise the lawyers on vacation the rest of the year

2 - all ads end up on the retailers site. they only have to pay more, the more ads sent out

3 - most likely. but after working retail, the higher ups always seem to have an early glance at competitors, as these ads had to be made up a while ago. A competitor could do some un-advertised mark-downs, but won't be sent out in an ad in-time. They might worry about Amazon, but the giant could instantly drop their prices on all products competitors once they see the ads on Wednesday/Thursday before.

I believe it could be tied to disappointment. HD has multiple ad versions due to inventory constraints, so there is a chance the ad you saw isn't the one you will get (most items are the same, but several aren't).

Once the ad is out in the wild, it is out. Maybe not on the ad sites, but I have the pdf, and doubt I'm going to have lawyer telling me not to send it to friends (or anyone who PMs me ). I know I'm not the only one

I'm pretty sure they will still take competitor coupons.

As for Pro BF going on now.....I’d argue these Gorilla platforms at $29 RIGHT NOW are a better value than the typical ones for $20 on BF day.

The legs fold FLAT w the platform and the locking mechanism is much improved

Also I didn’t realize Ridgid made a Jawhorse copy but learned of it on Toolguyd today. They show $99 online but are $89 in-store as an NLP (that’s New Lower Price folks). For $89 I had to try one even though I already have a Jawhorse I rarely use.

Here’s the difference between the platforms from ~2 years ago on actual BF (left) vs these Pro Slim Folds. Both are Gorilla products.

These new platforms (background) are longer. Bonus.

My local HD had no idea this sale was going on. I tried to buy one of these online yesterday for store pickup (after HD sent me an email about the sale!), along with something else in the ad. They cancelled the order, because, according to the girl who called me, the sale hadn't started yet, and they didn't have the stuff. Both showed up with quantities and locations on the website, but that didn't matter to her, nor to the person claiming to be a manager when I called about it. I went in last night and just bought them (they were exactly where the computer said they were, with the right number of them).

^^They’re confusing their Pro Black Friday w actual Black Friday LOL

Nonetheless I’d ask for the store mgr and/or the district mgr. If you were allowed to order online AND the system shows stock those employees need to be set straight.

Incidentally if people are struggling to find these but the system shows stock on hand look for black shrink wrap. They’re shipped 2 at a time in what looks like a trash bag condom.

I think HD and Lowes associates find Black Friday to be pretty confusing... lol

Like not only did they put all this out early, completely ignoring the signage, but then left the signage on it?

Neither the store manager nor the district manager care about what happens in this store. They don't price match, the store manager told me straight up they don't do it. (They have a giant sign on their fence that says they do.). They won't look for stuff that the computer says is there, but isn't in a standard location.

I bought a two pack of these yesterday (online then picked up). Used them both yesterday when doing a pre-winter detail on a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Much better than lugging one around, keep one on each side!

How is the "grip" on them? Did they get wet while you detailed - were they slippery?
I am thinking about getting them to better reach the top of my vehicles but my driveway has a bit of a slope to it.

I use my Gorilla platform to wash my truck and SUVs and I haven't slipped on it yet. They have ridges that run lengthwise that provide enough traction.

I've been using it since I got it last year as a gift and would like a second to place in series to help with washing the roof on longer SUV's. I also like using it as a seat to wax the sides of vehicles more than using a wheeled stool.

I have the Werner platform and don't care for it as much. The legs are floppy and only lock down when in use, not up for storage.

I bought a big set of Bosch Daredevil bits in HD last week for $20. Not black friday, but a good deal nonetheless. Coming from someone who has only ever used the bargain basement B&D spade bits...things are crazy!

I got the anonfile .pdf download to work last night but it wasn’t terribly fast - mighta just been my connection however. It would only work on my desktop, my iPhone would just stall out.

Now I’ve just got the whole thing saved, way better than linking thru individual pages.

Beat me to it. My local Depot has no less than 30 of them jammed into the tool box section. I don't know if $199 is a deal or if the January clearance price is going to be better.

Does that unit have a top box that fits it? I get the feeling it's a thinned out base only to hit the price point.

yeah... it feels a bit flimsy compared to the other options. I'd wager that they intend it to be a stand alone since they're marketing it as a "mobile workbench" with the butcherblock top instead of labelling it as a tool cabinet with a cheap-o rubber mat and an optional top chest, etc.

Complain on social media (facebook, twitter, yelp) as that tends to get their attention very quickly.

From the looks of it, everything in the flyer (at least tool wise) is up on the website. Buy now, pick up in store (avoid the holiday madness) should be available for all if it. There is a ton of stuff that's not in the flyer that is also on sale, including a ton of Jet stationary tools. I only flipped through the 23 page tool section, but I would imagine the same holds true for other sections. Not sure if any of them are "deals" but might be worth a look if you're in the market for something specific.

The first couple of hours might be madness at HD, but mid morning is slow, no crowds.

I've been stalking the 46" 9 drawer for a couple of years now and might pull the trigger. I have a 39" 3 drawer that I got for $40 that I really want to upgrade.

I went to HD yesterday to get some repair goods, and a LOT of stuff still in black wrappers, blocking a lot of the aisles... what was unwrapped looked more like it belonged in a Bed Bath & Beyond than a HD. A lot of customers were kinda pissed because you couldn't get from one side of an aisle to another, or shove a cart thru, for all the BF stuff stuffed there...

Personally, I stay home for BF... because it went from a day where stores have a sale, to this big consumerfest holiday where you're hyped up to go out snd spend spend spend, where spending money is far far more important than either the day before it, or worse, the day a month from now...

Well said :rocker:
Much of the good deals were on and off throughout this year. The shopping season is only good for those that didn't do their homework :bounce:
And many items are old models, slightly inferior, or just a being phased for newer models next year, etc, and so on.
I'd stay away from the Rigid 16-gallon vacuum, motor started whining after a couple of years, get the $99 instead,

Two good HD deals are the Dewalt Portable 33" workbench for $70 and Coast LED Headlights (2-pack for $20)
