I was just in my local HD and they had most of the husky and general brand hand tools at half price. Not sure if that is going on elsewhere, but I got a set of 1/2" deep impact sockets for $35

My HD had an 80 gallon air compressor marked just over $400, claiming $800+ regular price. Seems like various items are being moved.

I just joined the site and came across this post. SHOCheapRacing, do you have the HD SKU # for the compressor you picked up? While I try not to frequent HD, this sounds like a great deal!

Unfortunately almost every single time someone posts that they found a "deal" at their local Home Depot it's just that one store that's doing it. Store managers special or that particular store clearing out some stuff maybe but for the most part these "Home Depot Specials" threads are nothing but a dissapointment at least for me. If you want to know what the specials are in your area you pretty much have to go hang around the store everyday.

Welcome to the 21st century. Not to get this worn out old argument going again but I'm afraid our children may never know what it's like to own things that are made to last 100 years.

Yep I called when the last air compressor sale was around, it's up to the store manager when they want to clearance or close out an item.

+1 HD threads have always been a big disappointment on Hot Deals for me. Never have I been able to find the same deals at my local HD. Waste of my time and gas, so I stopped going to check out long ago. I just read the HD threads to see what others are finding.

There have been nationwide clearance deals in the past...Vaughan hammers and Ryobi Tek4 stuff comes to mind. Managers do have discretion...one HD near me doesn't even have a clearance section...manager does something else with the merchandise.

I got one of the Vaughan hammers, but that was a nationwide Black Friday deal, and then hammer leftovers after that for few weeks. Nothing against the OP's that post, but the general everyday HD Hot Deal postings are disappointing, to say the least. Never local to me.

This was long before the California framer Black Friday deal. A few years back there was a clearance deal on Vaughan mallets, soft face hammers, and cats paws.

Valid points made by all parties. It seems the best solution to Home Depot deal threads would be to try to include the SKU and location of the store, when posting. Some HD stores (depending on the item, manager and if you prepay for the item), will transfer items for you for no charge, even clearance items. In the case of the compressor mentioned above, I stopped by my local HD today and learned that I missed out on their compressor clearance by about a week. According to the assistant manager I spoke with, some of the Husky compressor line is being consolidated, which explains the clearance items. Unfortunately, when I asked about transferring the compressor, because of its size and weight, it could not be transferred, bummer....

Could you scan or take a picture of your receipt? They should beable to price match with a recent receipt from a different store.

I will give it a shot. My scanner isn't the most effective though. I can also take a picture of the closeout sign and the item on my phone if that will help. Maybe I could take a shot of the actual invoice with the phone as well...

Yup my home depot is giving away this kind of clearance on air tools. I thought about grabbing impact with top torque rating but backed out so I rather to get earthquake from HF

Has that been your experience? I was recently looking at a bunch of LED recessed lighting fixtures. One store had them on closeout, but they didn't have as many as I needed. I drove a few miles to another store. They had stock, but the fixtures were not on closeout/clearance. I was told they could not give me the closeout/clearance price posted in the other store.

Yes, I have done it before. I do not know if I am actually going to beable to on this item because I don't have the time. I know they will price match via receipt for regular priced items, I do not know about sale/clearance, but some sweet talking may work. All depends on the manager and employees.

I have never worked at home depo but i have managed some retail stores...Some items that are deleted are elgilble for markdown, but depending on the volume of your sales, the age of the market you are in, the demographic you serve, your competition, overhead, ect. puts you into a different catagory as far as how many markdowns you can take a month. Knowing this, the best HD stores to shop for discounts are going to be your high volume HD at the beginning of the month ( when you get new markdown dollars to spend). Once agin, I do not work for HD but know this is how it is figured in major retail stores.

Because of this thread could get some items - maybe not the biggest deal, but useful.

$5 online order for 3 indexing pliers (quality seems good)
$5 three crescent adjust wrenches
$5 four husky tape measures
$5 husky ratchet screw driver with 12+ good driver tips quality good

$2 HDX orange 29 driver sets - some with drill bits some without
quality on small bits - one broke on first use
$5 HDX orange 22+ piece starter set -crescent, screwdriver with bits, pliers, magnetic dish, ratchet, etc.

Most were the after x-mas inventory clearance.

Haven't found the big ticket items though (the 26" husky rolling cars were sold out before x-mas at the closest store).

However, the closest store is on my way to work making it easier to make a quick stop at the checkout area by the contractor desk during the inventory cleanup.

I was in a HD once and saw the guy setting up a cart to go around mark down clearance stuff, and I said kind of joking "Mind if I follow you around" and it was a no joke NO (as in no you can't follow me).
