Is it because lowes is clearancing out their clam brand and going with irwin now? Saw some on the shelves yesterday

I was at a HD in western NY last week and noticed Irwin locking pliers(vice grips) were gone and replaced with Milwaukee brand locking pliers of all varieties

I wonder if this is because Milwaukee is pushing their hand tools and/or making it cheaper for HD to buy them, or because Apex (Irwin) is making a change?

It would make sense for Milwaukee to want to catch up/keep up with Dewalt moving more into hand tools, but since Lowe's & HD are going to be mostly committed to the house brand they are picking and choosing. I was told when those Wiss 3 packs were on sale a few months back that Lowe's wasn't clearancing them out but now I'm not so sure. I would love to see the Apex brands in more of a prominent role, whether they go exclusive with one store and are a feature or have specific displays like ryobi and milwaukee do at HD.

I'm surprised, honestly. I was fully expecting Home Depot to shutdown their tool department and have only HDX tools.

Their lawn and garden tool selection is entirely awful, I figured this would follow suit. :bounce:

Picked up the 5" vise for 43.00 at my HD in Greensburg, PA on the way home from work today. Saw a Jorgensen 8036 clamp chilling in the corner with a 10 dollar clearance tag on it.

Got to the register, the SKU rang up as 0.01. She manually entered both the barcode and the sku, and kept coming up with 0.01.....she thought about calling the manager for a sec, then smiled and rang me up with it for 0.01. So I got the clamp and the vise for under 45.00 out the door with tax.

What gets me is that they still have a shelf full of Jorgensen 8036 at full price....nothing seems to be wrong with this one...

If I were you, I would go buy all those 8036's... I bet they are all .01 and just aren't marked down.

My store has no Jorgensen's left.

I wish I could find these Jorgy's on clearance. No store within 100 miles has any according to inventory count online. Atleast I'm still able to get a good deal on them through Cripe. It looks like they got a ton of them from HD.

You can't go with the online inventory...my store is also listed as "out" when in fact there are about 12 on the shelf.

My bad- turns out they are still carrying the 24 and the 48...only the 36 was discontinued, and I got the last one of those. In my excitement I neglected to pay attention to the fact it was an oddball size.

Yeah, I saw the 24s and 48s today, and the 36s didn't have a shelf spot anymore. Didn't bother to check the clearance section as I was running out of time on my lunch break.

I went into my store today to check, and all they have there are Irwins and 2 shelf spots for besseys. I would be okay if HD started carrying K Body's!

The Irwin 24" parallel clamps were $20. All of my clamps I have now are the Jets, which I like a lot better, but damn that's cheap! Had to resist the urge to buy 10+!

I've been looking for a 6" vise for 6 months. I still haven't seen one on CL, so I bit the bullet and bought the $41 clearance Irwin on my lunch break. I'll be sure to put it through some stress testing tomorrow while I can still return it if need be.

Yeah, it's Chinese.

All of the Irwins are gone now and replaced with Bessey. Both are Chinese, but isn't Bessey not that durable?

Well, I got mine open and it turns out the Irwins are exact copies of Harbor Freight's vises, so it's not like Bessey could be any worse. :bounce:

Bessey parallels (K body's) are one of the most respectable clamps on the market. Highly recommended by many wood workers I know. It should also be mentioned that Jorgensen is highly recommended as well. Irwin's quick clamps have their place, but not in the realm of K body's.

They're item no. 62006. Mayhew Pro line. Very heavy duty feeling with metal striking cap.

All stores around Charlotte list them for $14.97, home delivery or ship to store only. But the Matthews, NC store still had 6 in stock, marked to $1.00 each. I left one for somebody else! If you're going there anyway, might worth the minute to see if your store has them in stock and marked down.
