Sooooooo, I've been reading the thread and visited HD. Nothing worth noting in clearance section. By the power equipment there were a few used items but the discount was very insignificant, maybe 15%. I brought the spreadsheet in with me and didn't see the price check machines you guys speak of. I asked and was told they don't have them. Started looking for a lindley faucet, picked one up and price checked it and self check out, rang up at $238. Looked around rafters in store and garden section. What else should I be doing? Thanks.
The knowledge that employees have about what's available in the store is all over the place. I've had many give me the 'blank stare' when I was at a new store looking for the customer computer, and I've had some that lead me right to it.
Best bet for next time - hit the customer service desk and ask them "do you guys have a computer I can use to hop onto homedepot.com and check out some online-only products?" 9 out of 10 times they'll point you to the customer computer. That other 1 time, they'll let you come around the desk and use one of their computers.
Once you're on the computer, click the Start Menu and click the "Store Menu" icon (should be the only one). It could also be in the quicklaunch bar (next to the start menu). Once in there, click the Price Check app which in the top row, second from the left.
Use that app to search for SKU or keyword (dewalt, faucet, etc..). When the search returns the results, clearance items are typically highlighted in yellow (although not always). If the list is too big to look through, click the "Refine Results" button (upper-left corner), select the "Clearance" button, and click "Return to Results".
If you find something (like your faucet example), verify the SKU. More times that not, a specific finish or variety of item will be on clearance, but the others wont (in your case the Oil-rubbed bronze faucet is full price, the brushed nickel is on clearance). The SKUs are different for all models, so really the SKU is your magic number, not the model of the faucet. Same is true for items re-released on a new SKU. The old SKU may be a penny, but the new SKU may be full price.
That's about as spoon-fed as it gets. Good luck!
