I have one of those scaffolds in pieces in my bedroom right now :) Its not mine, been borrowing it for the last year or so. Works great.

If the flooring allows, I prefer to use it without the casters for better stability.

Sure, they're great for things you need to grip that are different sizes quickly and easily that don't require maximum grip force. What that might be will be different for everyone.

For me, I will use them to clamp a ground cable to a ground rod, among other things...

After playing with these I need to update my previous wording. These have an adjustment ring to tighten or loosen them so you can make them get as tight as you want. They have just as much gripping power as normal vise grips from what I can tell. I may have to go back and get more at this price.

These are priced at $13 down from $20. At checkout they came up as $12

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-Self-Adjusting-Locking-Pliers-Set-2-Piece-1062/205090440

I dropped by HD yesterday to check out the self adjusting "vise grip" type pliers you are talking about. I decided against it after I saw how they were made. There is an exposed spring under the handle that seems likely to get hung on something and break.

I did want a pair of water pump pliers to put in the truck box, so I picked up a set of Husky "Quick Adjusting Groove Joint Pliers" in a set of two for $10.00. Well, one of the pliers broke before I could actually use them on anything. First time for that. The way they work is to push the button on the side and it turns a spiral grooved shaft that releases a pawl that engages in the teeth on the pliers handle. This allows the jaws to open/close. The button is simply pressed onto the end of the shaft, and not too tightly, it would appear. After simply pushing the button in a few times, it came off and the shaft, spring, and retainer popped free. I was lucky to even find all the parts on the floor to take a look at it all.

Talk about a flimsy, cheap piece of junk. These "pliers" are really giving Harbor Fright a run for their money in that category. I'll put a pic below to show the ones I bought and tomorrow I'll snap a few more close-ups on how this fine tool is constructed. For now, I'll be making a return trip to HD.

More to come...

The self-adjusting vise grip copies look like the Craftsmans that came out around the same time as Robo Grips, I don't remember what gimmicky name Craftsman gave them. Maybe the Sux-A-Lot, or Try'N-Lock

Seriously, we had a pair of the Craftsmans, they're long since in the scrap bin.

Was searching for the Ryobi $75 for 2 Li-ion deal at a Dallas home depot at US75 and Forest Lane. Found a bunch of these in stock, but also found a couple of really good deals.

I picked up a Dewalt DW745 table saw for $179. They had two left in new boxes.
http://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-15-Amp-10-in-Compact-Job-Site-Table-Saw-DW745/100497987

I also picked up 3 of these for $10.79 each. They were marked down from $14.88.

Just wanted to follow up on the failed Quick Adjusting Groove Joint Pliers from HD.

These came apart while I was pushing in the adjusting button and before I had even tried using them. Better to have it happen earlier than later, I suppose. At $10 for the set, I'm not surprised.

In the first photo the top pliers are intact. You can see the failed adjusting mechanism on the pair below it and some of the parts that fell out.

The second pic shows the parts that compose the release mechanism. When assembled, the shaft (2nd from the left) fits through the pawl that you see in the frame of the pliers.

The last pic shows the part that failed. Part #2 is a shaft that is simply press fit into the button #1 as shown. There is nothing more to hold these two parts together.

The shaft I mentioned above has a spiral-cut groove that engages with a pin on the internal pawl and serves to retract the pawl from the teeth on the frame when the button is pushed. The spring #4 sits outside this shaft and inside the frame of the pliers. It returns the button to its extended position when the button is released. The retaining nut #3 is screwed onto the shaft on the opposite end of the button and serves to hold the entire assembly in place.

Obviously, there are multiple possibilities for this mechanism to fail... and it did.

Shows as $400 at my local store. I would like to have one of these. Been using a $100 Craftsman 10" non-slider I got new in 1995 or 96. It won't cut all the way thru a 4x4 which drives me crazy.

This is a YMMV deal. You will need to check your local stores and see if they have any in stock for the $239 price.

I may have to jump on that Dewalt miter saw...and turn around and sell my 8+ year old Hitachi 12 to help offset the cost. Such a good deal on that saw!

Thats a pretty good deal for the portable saw. That is my favorite HD to go to in the area. They have the complete Milwaukee Fuel line!

Miter saw doesn't show as available any way I tried online, but my local stores are selling it at $239. If you need one of these, head out to a store. I hope to have one in my hands within the hour. :)

Weber Grill S-310 (stainless) was on clearance today for 637.00 down from 849. Online still shows it at 849 but both Downers Grove,IL and Frankfort, IL had them at 637.

I also picked up a set of Husky SAE Ratcheting Wrenches at clearance 12.00 down from 19.99. When i took them up to the register they rang up as 6.00, so i picked up a couple more for track/trailer sets.

I really with my local HD didn't **** with having these clearance items. Every time you guys post up something I want, no dice.

Milwaukee job boxes on sale? NOPE. Table or Miter saw? NOPE. I REALLY wanted that Miter saw, I've been putting off buying one and this would have been fantastic. Tool dept guy said they haven't had any since black Friday.

Better luck next time I guess.

In the end, I opted to purchase the table saw over the sliding miter saw. I've had my 12" Hitachi for 8+ years and have never really needed the extra cross-cut capacity that a sliding would offer...whereas I have had plenty of instances where I could've used a portable table saw.

Not lacking for a table saw, but I do have the Ridgid ts3650 so you could see how that's not terribly portable.

If the price drops down around 199 for the sliding miter saw, I may have to jump.

I got the Miter saw DWS782 as my first. 3 of them were at HD (I have 3 HD's w/in ~5mi from my house). Read some reviews, apparently not as nice as the 780 model but for $239 who can argue. The LED light can be added later by replacing a few parts, not cheap.

HD on Westheimer in houston has this lumber sitting on carts outside the garden area. I asked if it was clearance or something and the customer service girl said she thinks if it's sitting outside the fence then it is trash. Pretty good straight stuff for free possibly. If you're in the area it would definitely be worth checking out. Bring a trailer. If I would have had a trailer and didn't just get an injection in my lower back this morning I'd be all over this.

Thanks for the heads up on that miter saw.
That's an amazing deal. I've been looking at the 12" single bevel one for a while debating getting it or not. I would've been happy with just getting a dual bevel on sale for that price.
Picked it up last night got the last one too.

I would definitely get the blessing of the Store Manager before loading up a bunch of "trash" wood.
I would definitely get it in writing. I'm just saying if you're close by its worth a shot. There is some straight very usable stuff there.

What parts? I have the dw715 and the light isn't a direct fit for some reason.

there is a light that fits the the 780 series and a light that fits the 718 series. No idea if your 715 is going to be able to use the one intended for the 718 but that would be the one if either fit.

The one that fits the 718 is supposed to fit the 715. But I found out later that there are different "generations" of the 715 and it doesn't fit mine. That ***** because I REALLY wanted that light.
