Of course no GJ member, looking for a deal under "hot deals" trolling the "Home Depot clearance thread" scanning 56 pages of deals would be so obsessed to "kill our own mother for a tool deal. "

Siblings, cousins, steps, neighbors and of course YOUR mother, now that is completely different and would depend on the value of the deal. Let's be honest certain tools are worth more than most neighbors and I have not seen my cousins forever.

There are things called pricing errors, just because the computer has a price doesn't make them obligated to honor that price. Walking out after throwing pennies at a cashier without letting them complete the transaction constitutes theft.

I'm simple, if I need something I pay the lowest price I can find it for. If I want something I buy it if I have the disposable income. If I'm looking for clearance deals I pull the trigger when the price is "right". The Lowes Clearance Thread 2015 has a new find for the Dewalt Scrugun at $33. I paid $53 or so last month. Do I take it back to return and re-buy? Hell no! I got a good deal (and the last one in stock) but another GJ member happened to get a better deal.

This HD thread has taken off so far, and understandably so. I've found exactly none of the major deals in this thread. If I had--and spent my hard-earned money--I'd be happy with the (already sharply discounted) price I had paid.

Finally, the receipt or at least an electronic transaction record (credit, debit, e-check) would be needed as proof of a purchase. I've had a few experiences recently where I wish I could have merely tossed a few dollars on the counter and walked out without change. Unfortunately, it doesn't work like that. Try explaining to a prosecutor how you tossed a few pennies and walked out with something that retails for hundreds.

Right on. I bought the Dewalt slider at $240 and was stoked. Never tried to get a price match. Not that I hold it against anyone that did.

FWIW, I stopped by HD today to burn some time. There was a inventory going on and the guy doing it was standing next to the clearance rack. I jokingly asked if that was were the $0.01 deals were, and he said "I hope not, if you find those, then I get into trouble."

I don't know about your HD. They started this about 2-3 years ago.

There is a armed patrol person at the front, doing the usual, let me check your receipt/swipe marker over it sorta deal.

Alot of these are rent-a-cops, but I suspect a couple are off-duty, extra side money gigs...

They are all security guards down here in south Florida, they probably get paid 8-10 bucks an hour. Never seen a police officer work one. Wal-Mart supermarkets hire police officers but not at all locations. The flat county rate for police off duty here is 38 an hour, for officer slightly more for Sergeants and Lt's. But not to many senior guys work it because their OT rates go up as high as 60 plus and hour. I don't think Home Depot wants to pay that much, but they could definitely afford it.

They could easily fix this and instead of using $.01 for the items they aren't supposed to sell, price them at $9999.99. That would surely stop this behavior of hiding things or people trying to return/rebuy for the lowest price once the item is gone.

The company I work for has us do that for our items. We price unused register items at $99.99 because we sell nothing over $10 (restaurant) normally per item and it gets attention real quick that way.

Yesterday I saw a Dremel MM20-06H, but it still rang up $99. Didn't see a tag on the shelf so I thought maybe it was a straggler on clearance, but I guess not.
This was in Orange, CT.

I think you are stalking me!

I scanned that very one myself TWO days ago. I put it right back where I found it (hidden behind the other Dremel stuff, up against a DeWalt miter saw [no! not the DWS782] )

Funny thing is, on that trip I found an M12 heated hoodie in XL IN THE STORE! The cashier couldnt believe they had any left, then couldnt believe the price it rang up for (38.02)

:)

Yesterday I tried to do a "return and buy back" on the Milwaukee rotary tool.

Since the item had been clearanced at $25.02, it was no longer in the system. So, they refunded my purchase price - but couldn't resell it back to me at the clearance price since it had dropped to $.01 in their system. So, rather than selling it to me for $25.02, they gave me my money back and wouldn't sell it to me at any price. Sheer lunacy...

I always do a price check on the instore computer before returning a clearance item for repurchase. If it is not found, you are SOL. Sure, you could argue with customer service for an hour till they resold it for the last price, but you have to be pretty persistent, and they have to be in a good mood.

I was wondering if anybody picked up an extra Dewalt 8v screwdriver? I have a home depot $30.25 store credit that I would be willing to trade. I saw them in my local store at $40 a few weeks ago but are now long gone since being dropped to $18. Thanks!

Ok you guys aren't going to believe this. I was heading to lowes to see if they had any deals so I stopped by the homedepot in Miami gardens just to see if I could find a Dewalt screwdriver deal. Couldn't find one but I noticed a special buy Dewalt table saw? I'm like yea right so I check the model number with this thread sure enough it was one of the ones left over from Christmas. I run out get a shopping cart and make the line. The female cashier rings it up and I see the $0.01 penny price. She stops walks over to a male cashier who rings it up with a phone scanner. Rings up a penny, the guy looks at me and says Marry Christmas. I look at him like what holding my credit card and he goes it's yours take it?????????

I push the cart outside and the alarm goes off????, no one stops me.. Now mind you I'm a Cop and im like WTF just happened. Go to my car pop the trunk and drive away. They wouldn't give me a receipt since it was free.

I'm not making this up its true probably the first and last time in my life. So yes they are still out there, now will they let you buy it? Don't know but trying won't hurt.

Had that happen before at HD. Buying clearance cabinets to remodel a laundry room and a $250 base cabinet rang up for a penny. Felt like I stole something for a day or so...

First, YOU ****

Second, I bet they let you "just take it" because it looks real bad for them if they let you ring it up for a penny and actually pay for it.

You get the saw, they get to void the transaction before the mother ship knows about it....everyone wins!

Enjoy the saw.

Yea I had the credit card ready thinking maybe it would be 75 bucks the last lowest price. Also had 10 bucks cash on me. Would have been funny if I walked out with $9.99 in change.... It's just nuts man, the best deals I ever got was from lowes 140 bucks for a Bosch 12 glide saw and 100 bucks for a 80 gallon CH compressor still bolted to the pallet. This beats them all.

yes - the managers get in trouble for sales of penny items. Sometimes they will give them to you to keep it off the books. You can also sometimes get them to sell them to you under a generic clearance sku for the department at some reasonable price (not a penny)- I call it the "green clearance sku" because you often see green clearance stickers set up with that sku. There is a bit of paperwork to be done when something is sold with the green clearance sku but I usually ask for it when I find penny items in a quantity over 5 or so.

The rush of Black Friday items is certainly winding down... many/most are a penny now and it gets harder and harder to buy them.

Another thing you can do. If an item is on clearance price but out of stock and another store has the item at full price, buy the item at the full price store. Return it to the clearance store close to closing. The night shift will restock it. Just get to the store early before someone else snags it.
Good job on the saw. I was after 3 brush cutters one day and was going to pay what was the last price on them. A worker pulled them down and scanned them and disappeared. came back with the manager and he said it was my lucky day.I didn't know overnite they went to a penny.

Congrats to the penny club......going to be hard to top this one! This deal never really happened as far as that particular store is concerned and corporate may never know of it either.

Those 4" Christmas bessey clamps were marked to 2.90 at my store this week. On last Wednesday they were still full price. There were still several packs of the 6"/12" clamps last week as well last Wednesday but none today and no signs or indication they were supposed to be there so I'm guessing they were finally discontinued. Might be worth checking your stores for penny deals on them. I've picked up several of them since Christmas and they are nice clamps for the money.

My store seems to be really good at pulling discontinued items so there's never any penny deals

With some inside info I know that the penny deals are never supposed to be sold. Once they hit that penny they are supposed to be removed from the floor. Good score for finding some and getting them to be sold.

Was lucky enough to stumble upon some penny air hose reels yesterday, head supervisor saw the stuff in my cart @ checkout and told me as soon as you put the items in your cart they have to sell whatever it is to you, said it was store policy...

Well hope that's true if it is they all need to follow the same policy. But I think they get in trouble for not pulling them out before it hits that price. :dunno:
