Found a couple unicorns. I would've had three but the woman running the self check saw the screen as I was price checking the first one and said they couldn't sell it. I'll have to be more careful next time I guess.

Sorry if the pictures are giant. I can't resize on my phone.

Nice find I like that you purchased other items to throw them off. I can't stand that they won't sell it, if it's on the floor there should be no excuses.:drink:

Wife went back, the manager pulled and hid them, she had 4 helpful employees scour the store but were not allowed to sell them still.

HI...was a lurker and was landing some deals...not great like you guys.. and now have become a member..

great thread here... Was wondering if there is a single page where all these items ##, sku and price is on a single page or 2...

I did see a dewalt 8v screwdriver set opened up in a plastic box,,,no dewalt box or paperwork..but had everything...and they put a generic price sticker of $100 price deal as clearance.....Haha... I told them it is more then when it was sold new at Home depot....Yeah... stupid girl working in tools department... How do I convince them its a 1 penny deal and land it...

Page 37 on this thread has a majority of the deals listed with item and sku numbers.

My two pack of big ryobi batteries that were $48, might be failing already. They were purchased 2-15-15. I don't know if it was the batteries or my pole saw overheating and cutting a circuit, but I was getting five minutes where I normally get thirty, swapped, same thing again. Might have been the saw...I'll take careful note on other tools that I didn't run so hard.

Too bad about the batteries but Ryobi has a 90 day risk-free + three year warranty. Might want to check it out.

Not sure if this was posted but if you got some 18V Ridgid batteries:

IMG_20150311_223032.jpg

Not sure this is the absolute lowest price but supplies are dwindling IN THE STORES. Buy now and watch for price drops even though it didn't end in .04 or .02

Great for light-duty quick pickup of debri and it also converts to a blower. Run time is typical cordless time (short) but better with non-compact lithium batteries. Price for a good single replacement filter is too close to the price of this deal. Was reintroduced at $99 then $89 now $49 online only.

I think I am going to pick one up today after work, do you happen to know if a Ryobi 4.0 battery will physically fit in the battery compartment?

I can't seem to find any interior pictures online.

For $20 I think I am going to hack a Ryobi battery to it, worst case I will put it in the collection side and run wires to the battery compartment. Downside to that is it would be a dry vac only at that point.

I don't think a Ryobi pack would fit because Ridgid uses a slide pack style battery while Ryobi uses the stem battery form factor

Thats exactly what I considered doing with the Ryobi batteries. For twenty dollars (vac) and $25 Ryobi 4.0 batteries, it will be a nice project. The Ridgid battery plate is only secured with one screw and there are probably only two wires. Just grab a cheap Ryobi flahlight/drill for the battery adapter, wires, glue and it might fit real nice.

So what do I need to be looking for to find a penny deal? I noticed the clearance tags have dates on them. I scanned something with a date of last October, and it was still the price on the tag.

Excellent, I will give that a try. One of the stores I go to still has a bunch of the blue Ryobi "battery tester" devices on a keychain. I bet those are pretty cheap by now.

Just need to do some testing on what type of plastic is used on each piece and then hopefully find a glue that will fuse them together.

It is really luck of the draw, I believe all the clearance prices are computed by an algorithm that pulls from god only knows how many different data points to determine how fast the stuff needs to get out the store.

I know most of the penny deals discussed in this thread seem to be from Holiday/seasonal items, their may be more pressure to clean the store out of these items since there are new seasonal items coming in. A/c units, fans, garden stuff, and so on.

What I've found is that the real clearance items aren't in the clearance sections but are actually out in the isles. The only way I was able to get the Saw Max for a penny is because they were mislabeled on the shelf. They were marked as SM20-03 instead of SM20-02 so they were missed when they pulled the other penny items. I've found if the item is in the clearance section the date doesn't mean squat, but if it isn't in that section the last digit in the price is the number of weeks before the items hits a penny. Also note the number of weeks isn't exact, if the date on it was a Monday it won't necessarily be a Monday when it hits a penny.

Of course YMMV. I'm sure not all stores do inventory the same.

It still seems ridiculous that they mark them down to $0.01 when they want to return them to corporate.. instead they should make the price $9999 and believe me, they won't sell a single one of them once they want them "done"

I think it is less of an issue to try and prevent customers from buying a $0.01 item then have to deal with customers trying to return their $2.15 flashlight for $9999. Think about how much of a mess that would be.

If they really wanted to solve this issue they would do away with price and not have the items even recognized by the POS, or freeze the transaction as UNSELLABLE.

Don't give them ideas. LOL

So if I understand correctly, all items ending in a 3, as in $.53 or $.03 are marked for clearance/return to vendor, and these are the ones we need to check? Reason I ask is that I saw this on their site -

http://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-1...olling-Stand-DWE7499GD/205415450?N=5yc1vZc29i

It's online only, but gives me an idea of what to look for when I'm in the stores.

From what I've seen the $.03 items don't seem to drop, at least not on any schedule.

If it ends in a 2 then I believe it has two weeks before it hits a penny. I think the first discount is usually to a number ending in 6.

This would probably mess up their calculations for the value of their inventory and throw off the financial reporting. Sure they could put in "if" statement in their program that calculates the inventory, but they are probably using some old program.

This is pretty much why they do it. Better for them to pay taxes on that penny than $9999 for inventory purposes.

Also, any store of that size should really know how to use the OBSOLETE function in their inventory management systems. That typically only allows two functions to happen, scrap out or Return to vendor.

We are second-guessing people with more information than us.

The tax consequences of pricing an item at $999 or $9999 could be huge. Many tax jurisdictions have a small tax on total inventory value. That '$10K' item might cost $10 or $20 in tax.

Essentially giving away clearance items is also great marketing. I go to HD much more frequently than I need to, just in the hope of getting a good deal. And when I'm there I end up shopping for things I don't really need. That's probably true for most of the people here. Did that floor really need to be replaced? Did you really need a new grill?

I did the opposite of this with an old dustbuster, posted about it here:

I was able to find the part# for the plug itself from a flashlight (I think) thanks to the help of someone else on here. You should be able to do the same thing in the other direction or just put some pigtails with connectors (not sure of the Ryobi terminals).

Someone here asked about a glue for it, I used 3M #04240 because I have it around. If you can't find that or it's cost-prohibitive I used to use a product called "Plastic Weld" that was available at most auto stores. It is sold under both Permatex and Devcon names but it's the same stuff. I never found another plastic epoxy that worked as well as that stuff until I moved up to 3M.

Now I just need to find me a vacuum... None of the stores near me have had them.

anyone having any luck with the Ridgid Roofing Cutter? I'm not finding any in New Hampshire, gone sold out and out of the system. Seems funny that they still carry the blades at full price.

I saw one about a week before they dropped to a penny and didnt pick it up.

Kicking myself now because I thought I read you can use other blade types in it (not just roofing cutters), but I dont know what blades those would be.

Great that you could find one so late in the game. I'm curious what the price could be now since the Dewalt tool box sell off went fast and furious at $125/225. I think the Dewalt tool box is very nice for the advanced DIYer especially at the clearanced price. Metal used throughout is reasonably thick. I bought the bottom roller for the 100 lb drawers and slightly misunderstood 200 lb bottom drawer (which can open fully) which I use for large non-mechanic tools. I would recommend picking it up if you have not because it will retain value/ ez to sell because it's a "Dewalt". Quality is comparable to 52" Husky models which are getting some favorable reviews from non-pros.

5-Drawer Metal Rolling Storage Chest in Yellow
Model # DWMT73679
Store SKU # 1000042423
Internet/Catalog SKU# 205038302
$225

.

if you have the receipt...can you post a pic or just the item ### or sku ### of both the top and bottom....that way I can find price and locate which stores still have top or bottom..
that way... I can just ask them what price the sku ## is ringing up in their system.... if its too much....I would rather get the harbor freight one.

Picked up a 27" tool cabinet for $30 tonight. They have a new model in and I got the floor model. Hopefully the pic will upload from my phone since it has the sku.

Deserves a u **** award no matter what they say about Husky tool boxes. One can always find some use for a roller tool cabinet. Newer generations of Husky tool boxes are slowly making improvements thats getting noticed for value/performance

I have a dead Ridgid battery if anyone wants it to attempt a retro fit with a Ryobi. It's a 2 amp hour model. Send a PM to claim it and a call tag.
