Guys let me know what I'm missing...

Last night I went to my local Home Depot and use the Price Checker on the Customer Service Computer. One the app launched, I input the store location and then the store departments pulled up.

In order to find an item, I had to drill down pretty low to search items. For example:

Tools & Hardware > power tools > cordless power tools > drills

after I got to drills, I could sort low to high and see what as a deal. I can't imagine this is the process - it would take forever to discover an item. Let me know if I missed something. Thanks!

I don't recall seeing the departments and usually my store is already inputted by default.

Typically I open the app then go to the search box where I will type in a brand: Makita, Milwaukee, Ryobi, and so on. You can also search by item type but I think searching by brand is more effective.

From there I click "Refine Results" which will bring me to a new screen. At the bottom there is an option to check off on clearance items.

After this At the top you should be able to select something along the lines of "show filtered items"

Once the new screen loads if you click on an item to check inventory you will have to repeat the filter results process as is brings you back to all the items for that brand you originally searched for.

It's actually "Back to List"

I just found a dewalt table saw de745. I couldn't find it in the computer when looking. What do you think would happen at the register when attempting to scan it?

Still wrapped in plastic, just don't know how to buy it. Self check out of course but, I couldn't find it in the computer when looking at the price check app.

It's actually . . . . DW745 . . . for the Model number. Plan your attempt by going at 20 min before closing.

Shows up now on HD website at $299 so I'm real curious what will happen.

Let all us inquiring minds know !! ;) Plus . . . we'll need copy of receipt ! :D

If you have someone pull it down I would make sure you have a basket ready and then tell him you have more shopping to do. I find that often times after bringing something down for you they want to walk you up to the register.

It'll probably ring up as a penny. I've noticed that the behavior of the Price Check app on the in-store computers changed earlier this week. Previously when an item was a penny the app would find the SKU as you were typing it in in the search box but then say no items found when you clicked on the SKU. Now it doesn't even find the SKU when you type it in. But the item will still ring up as a penny at the register.

Thats exactly what I observed when using the HD computer today. Neither SKU nor codes for the 18V Ryobi miter saw was found in the database. I scanned a copy of the UPC from the 18V Ryobi miter saw I bought last month for $25.03 and it was a penny! Very satisfied with the $25 miter saw. If you find a store with the 18V Ryobi miter saw, grab-scan-pay-walk briskly with receipt

I didnt see this listed but I've been picking up these little bessy clamps for less than $3.00 a piece in three different stores in my area. Some have them kinda hidden hanging on the shelving itself.

I picked up 4 of those, and kinda wish I'd have gotten more. Also regretting that I only picked up one set of the larger clamps--2-each six and twelve inch were $10 at one store, and I didn't see those anywhere else.

This is EMV or chip credit cards. All retailers are working on it, but some more than others. I heard Wal Mart was first to support it. Should be in most stores by October. Gas pumps have until Oct next year to support the chip cards.

Oh yeah I forgot, mag stripe stuff went out about 5 years ago up in Canada. The machines have a mag stripe reader but it's mostly used for air miles or aaa cards (caa really)

I travel to Canada (BC, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Nova Scotia) about ten times a year, for a week at a time. Been doing it for about twelve years. I have an AmEx that has a chip and all my other cards (personal and company) still have the magnetic strip. Never had any issues, in any province using the mag strip cards.

Yep but if the card has a chip the mag stripe doesn't work unless you get a manager over. if the chip fails the terminal asks for a swipe but I've never had it work on a chip equipped card.

To keep it on track - Home Depot have one of those integrated point of sale things that are sort of rare here. It remembers your card number email home address etc and automatically emails a copy of receipt regardless of which store you buy at. Conversely they can track your purchases and returns so you can't do so much of the buy and return tricks here, at least not on a card they have the number for.

Didn't know that. Fortunately never had any issues. But I have heard that the chip cards are supposed to be much more secure than the mag-strip cards. If that's the case, then I'm all for it.

The chip in the credit card is to mostly protect the retailers and banks. It is not to protect consumers. If they used chip & PIN, which is what they do in Europe, it would protect consumers. All it would mean is that you would have to enter a PIN for credit cards just like you do for debit cards now. And for that little bit the greedy credit card companies and banks pass on because it does not do anything to protect them.

Welcome to the USA. This was a completely braindead decision. I am not pro big government but this is what you get with free market - decisions based on greed. Why spend a little more and protect consumers? **** 'em.

I guess they're switching brands? Was in Savannah earlier and saw some Dewalt nailers with a sign on them stating that they weren't to be put on the floor until the nailer reset in May.

Don't know. There was about half a dozen boxes, though.

My HD has a bunch of nailers on clearance, but everything I looked up was only 10-20% off. They have a whole new nailer display set up. I also found a 3 piece HDX nailer set from spring Black Friday on clearance, but only $4 off. I'll be keeping my eye on it.
