My local west Chicago store had one on the shelf but computer showed none in stock. The price is $199. They would discount to $176.

I just bought one last week, before the sale. I went back with the receipt, and they gave me a credit for the difference.

Of course here in Billings, MT online is showing 5 in stock...... @ $199.00!

Online almost never ever shows the clearance price for in store items.

Calling the store can often result in a false price as many times the employees do a price check on the website. The only surefire way is to check yourself.

Don't these regularly go on sale for $20 on black friday at Lowes/HD?

Also, For those interested in something like this, I recently picked up a Cramer step stool (similar height) at Zoro for $30, regularly >$60 online. I find these to be more useful as they roll around if needed.

Yep, self check is a must. I've had many a price check done by someone in the store & they check the Internet price. It even happened last night until I had them scan the item to be sure. Unfortunately but typically, Billings Store was still at the $199.00 price in the store & the manager wouldn't even consider a price match or any drop in price.
Maybe that's why I hear squeaking noises every time I'm in that store!

I'd keep an eye on it, it could be that one store stopping to carry the item or they could just be the first in line.

The Makita items in my area went on clearance about a month after what seemed to be the rest of the country.

Need a little help on the price adjustment policy...

If I pay full price for something at one HD, then go to another HD that has it on clearance price, can I get a price adjustment there at the 2nd HD?

Or does this fall into the whole return/rebuy thing?

And exactly how does the return/rebuy work... do you just tell them you want to return the item and rebuy it?

No. I wouldn't do that bc it raises suspicion and they may implement a system to forfeit this trick. Return it at the end of the night and buy it next morning.

I did this last night - they offered me the option to return and rebuy, or receive store credit for the difference. I told them, whatever is easiest, so they issued me a gift card for the difference. I think the official policy is credit may be claimed up to 14 days before the sale.

I just came from HD & by chance spoke to the store mgr about the clearance items from store to store and he was nice enough to share with me how he see's the $ differences on clearance items between stores.
1) regional decisions: to stock, not stock, clearance, etc are done by regional mgrs & they have no choice in the matter. Billings in western & Minnesota in the northern regions he said.
2) profit/loss: each individual store has to manage their clearance or losses from what they bought products for, down to a weekly basis. He stated it was a percentage and that based upon the stores volume of sales. Thus a store with higher sales will have have more dollars which can be given to clearance items discounts. A low volume store like Billings has to really watch & manage their clearance items thus very small dollar decreases on the same item. Again they need to stay below a certain percentage of their weekly sales dollars. This also means in the busy summer time they clearance more items because of the increased sales.
3) Contractor Entrance: since they see contractors as a consistent & large volume of business they will put items clearanced near the contractor entrance & more often not leave them on the deptmt shelves. Kinda a reward for their business, so a good place to enter the store at if a similar habit occurs at your local stores.
4) corporate bosses: since they visit during the week this mgr likes to put stuff out for the weekends. That way the stores look their best for the "dog & pony show" during the week. (My term, not his.... But you get the idea.). Ask your store when they put most of their clearance items out if you don't see a pattern. I use to go on Fridays because they were getting ready for the high volume weekend traffic to move clearance stuff.
5) Local Climate: he mention that people in billings grab up clearance items very fast. IMHO I believe where I live the people think 10-20% off is great. Whereas I, transplanted from a city of 1 million, am much more critical of a deal and thus may wait til 50-60% off til I buy the same thing. A larger city, more people means more stores & choices for people thus the stores may have to be more aggressive with pricing in a larger city to move clearanced product. Again, I'm just speculating on this one from my experiences.
6) mistakes: sometimes it's a simple ordering mistake by staff which may bring in too much of a specific item, so they clearance it to get inventory level down then up the price again. This could happen with seasonal items as well.
7) store size: depending on how large the stores are, (the mgr thought billings was large...it's all perspective because I think it's 1/3-1/2 the size I'm use to seeing.) which dictate the shelf space they have for product. Thus one store may not actively clearance an item because they have plenty of shelf space for it to sit, in hopes they sell them without little or any discount. A store with less space may just try to get them gone ASAP because they need the shelf space for something else.

Those are some of the things which one manager shared with me today. There may be more or less which the managers of your local store may view as important or not important and as we have all seen this can also lead to differences between stores. IMHO, even the time on the job of a manager may play a role. An old, experienced & successful manager may be able to bend or even ignore the percentages my manager ad hears closely to.
BOTTOM LINE: (Imho) I feel it helps each of us to get to know the tool guys, the pro desk guys & hopefully the managers too. We all like to help our friends out so if they know you like a smoking deal and your someone they like or have become friends with, it may make a difference in the deals we all receive. It's the old Honey vs Vinegarthing great granny always said!
Case in point: I got to know my tool guy by name & asked him to let me know of the "smoking deal", the kind you call your best friend on. He walked me over & showed me a Bostitch brad nailer ordered by mistake & priced at $30. It's $119 on line. Jackpot! What did I do, called my best friend & told him about the other one & he bought it!

Just picked up a Milwaukee M18 mini-blower on clearance for $25 down from $79. Not every HD has it at that price though as I was at HD near my folks' place that I normally don't go to. Pretty decent blower for the size and it's nice to not have to drag a cord around.

Just picked up 4 of the skilsaws for $50.03 each. Somersworth NH (none left)

As a side note, make sure you guys are checking the rafters.
The nice tool employee that held 2 aside for me ended up spotting 2 more in the rafters when I showed up. Store inventory only said they had 2.

Yeah I cant believe how long its been sitting at 69.00. And back around Black Friday, one of my local stores had it for 49.00 but I didnt bite, then put it back up to 69.00 after BF.

For $25.00 though, hell yeah. I really only intending on using it to blow dry my car after washing, it sure beats dragging out the big backpack blower

Ridgid 6-gal vertical pancake compressor just went on clearance at my store. Price hasn't dropped though, $149. Just bought this a few months ago, very nice compressor and not that loud. Keep your eyes open, once the price drops down to .06 level these won't last. Probably won't ever reach .03 level.

How long do I have to get a price adjustment? 90 days or 180?

It must have been a return to a store that doesn't normally carry the fuel bandsaw. Only one store near me stocks it. That's the one with the big Milwaukee display inside with a rep

Maybe. The full kit was right next to it. I looked around, quite a few stores around me carry it in stock.
