Was hoping you might have found some way to check from your smartphone :) wishful thinking at this point... although I may experiment with the URL and host to see if I can price check from home...
That's exactly what I was hoping for. A smartphone app. Already knew about the store computer app thanks to a buddy of mine [emoji6]

The Lowes app and website shows the actual store prices for each store, including the actual clearance prices. Would be nice if Home Depot did the same.

Why would I pay $100 for something on the HD website when the local store has it for $20? Since you "set your store" when shopping the HD website and app, it should also reflect that store's prices.

Ridgid 12V Li ion charger $10.03
Sku 824547
5 of these at my local HD.

4 of these at my local store for $10.03. Debating on whether or not to buy them. I don't know how well they'd sell on ebay...

I've seen them just about everywhere since. I'm waiting to see if they hit a penny. Only then is it going to be worth the effort selling.

Anyone ever used this inventory checker site before? It just uses Internet item number (not SKU number) and zip code.

Seems to be fairly accurate for normal in-stock items, but for clearance items it doesn't seem to be accurate at all (saying out of stock when in fact they do have it in stock and their store inventory also says they have it).

Any input on this?

Seems to be based off the online website inventory so not really of any use for clearance.

If you go to the Pro center, there are PC's that you should be able to use. Click on the store front application and there is an icon for Public price check. You can then just enter any model number or SKU and it will pull up the price. I just did this today for an M18 Fuel bandsaw. . unfortunately, it was still at MSRP. Was hoping to get lucky like the other poster earlier and snag one for ~$85.

One of my area stores put two computers by door and window desk for public use. My stores are hard to find a deal.

similar to the "pro" app scanned a few items that were yellow tagged hoping for pricing but no luck shows zero qty on hand
Found a fuel drill/driver on clearance at my store, still shows over a hundo on the tag, wonder if the self scanner will show less.

I use my ebay app to see what they are selling for. Not what they are asking for.

If all you see is what they are asking for, then I do a % off that price and go from there. Ebay/paypal already take 13% from you which you already know that

Not sure if this has been posted or not. fyi

When it comes to costly home remodeling and repairs, these codes can help you rack up big savings.

Pro Tip: Focus on yellow tags, ignore white tags. Home Depot only uses yellow tags for clearance items. White tags, regardless of the ending numbers, mean full price.

If the price tag ends in:

6 – Prices ending in .06, .36, etc., indicate 6 weeks left until the next price change. These items have hit their second markdown cycle. Home Depot uses 2 markdown cycle before they close an item out. More on that later.

3 – Same as 6, but with 3. These items have 3 weeks left before the next markdown. Depending on how much you want these items, you can risk waiting or grab them now.

Pro Tip #1: Keep an eye on items with 3 on the end and wait 3 weeks. They drop to a penny after 3 weeks in Home Depot’s system. They call this “pennying out”. Associates should take them off the shelves, but many times, these items might stay on the shelves for a bit longer. Now’s the time to grab great items for a penny.

Pro Tip #2: Look for yellow tags with 10% off noted on the top. Home Depot uses these tags for store returns in workable condition, but may have a missing part. If you can live with that, you’ll get a good deal. Not only that, you can ask for an even lower price than the one on the tag at checkout. You will get it most of the time (unless the manager acts like a big meanie).

Good info...but not always accurate...for example I have seen items remain at the .06 level for over one year. And I have also seen items drop from regular price straight to the ,03 clearance level.

This.

The Milwaukee 18V cordless blower was on .06 price for seemingly forever. A LOT longer than 6 weeks, more like almost 6 months.

Finally went to 25.03 last week and I picked one up, figuring it will be long gone before it hits a penny.

And the associate has to change the paper feed to actually print yellow tags. When I worked there, very few of the hardware associate, at the store I was at, actually knew how to change the feed, let alone did it.

In Canada at least the UPC scanner on the HD iOS app will correctly read clearance tags in the store (price at least) but there is no way to navigate to the item from inside the app, you have to find a tag to scan to get to the info.

To check stock without a tag requires the HD computer.

What's this price check app you speak of

Is the price check app tied into the same database as the price scanners sprinkled throughout the store? Should prices agree between app and scanner?

Being able to successfully buy penny items just depends on the attendant I guess,

The other day I was able to scan 59 penny items. The attendant didn't flinch and even said "have a nice day" when i finished my purchase.

Another penny item :)

472543- Ryobi 18-Volt ONE+ Battery Fuel Gauge - $0.01 / $9.97

A few Philips LED bulbs went on penny status today

459425 - Philips 65W Equivalent Soft White (2700K) BR30 Dimmable LED Flood Light Bulb - $0.01
203612 - Philips 25W Equivalent Soft White (2700K) B12 Blunt Tip Candle Dimmable LED Light Bulb - $0.01
977714 - Philips 45W Equivalent Soft White (2700K) F15 Dimmable LED Light Bulb - $0.01

I was at HD this evening and I saw guy with a cart full of random stuff headed to SCO. I followed him to SCO and looked over his shoulder. EVERYTHING RANG UP AS 1 cent!!!!. There must have been over 50 items he scanned and the attendant didn't care. As he was walking walking out I tried to ask him how he did all that but he acted like he was on meth or something and said "no speak english" ...very strange.

Some more 1 cent deals at HD

These all seem VERY fishy... especially after your storage bin comment.

North Hampton, NH has a Ridgid X4 18V cordless grinder bare tool in stock for $25.03. I passed. That was the only good deal I could find in the whole store. Every decent clearance item was sold out.

Does anyone actually see penny deals in the price check app anymore? I used to see them up until about a month ago, right around when someone mentioned that they were upgrading their payment system. The only things that show for a penny now is old Christmas ornaments and stuff labeled "display model". Nothing with the yellow clearance status ever shows as a penny anymore. Either that or they are just getting better at getting rid of it.

Hehehe that might been me saying they might have upgraded their system. I did not just say that without any facts to support my conclusion.

But it turned out I did not understand what the procedure for using the self checkout to purchase penny deals. I scanned the yellow clearance tag under price check when I should have scanned the original UPC. I will own up to my own confusion.

So I think the store are getting better at getting them off the shelf.

If you're in the Hooksett nh area... This isn't a crazy deal or anything and looks like a floor model but it's still discounted

He hides things in the store waiting for the price to drop.

Who said i did that? I've actually seen people hide stuff in storage bins, bathroom cabinets and tool box shelves. If they hide it there, it's free game for me to go search in them.

Just ordered Husky 10pc 1/4 deep 6pt. socket sets, standard and metric, for $6 and $9 respectively. Shipped to closest store for free so less than a dollar per socket.

1000003097 hitachi framing / brad nailer 2 of nailer kit down to $54.02 but not in stock at my work. Awesome deal for anyone who can find it.

Stanley yellow fiberglass handle rakes and shovels $5.04 each and lots left at my store. I forget the sku. I grabbed one of each to keep as a backup.

Picked up a Dremel Multi-Max MM20-02 yesterday for a penny. It was an open box but looks to be brand new. I know it wasn't on the shelf the last time I was there. :dunno:

Link: MM20-02

My local store also has 5 more of these kits in stock at $99, all look like returns. Not sure what's going on there but they seem to be discontinued as Husky has multiple kits in the 300pc range for about the same price. Might be worth keeping an eye on. Link: Husky 307pc Tool Kit

How are you guys getting these penny deals ? I have found multiple things that are .06 or .03 that are long past 6 and 3 weeks of the date on the tag and they still scan up as the price on the yellow sticker ....

are you scanning the yellow sticker or the original sku ?

Wow! There were 6 of those at mine on yellow tag Sunday, but the yellow tag was twice that number. I'm going there tonight to look FOR SURE.

I can't speak for anyone else but I've only gotten penny deals due to bad organization of the Dremel-type tool display in my local store. The deals I've found have never had yellow tags because the items don't even have tags on the shelf.

So far I've bought 3 Dremel Saw-Max's and 1 Dremel Multi-Max for $.01 each. Every time the item had the wrong tag or was placed behind other items on the shelf.

If you want a kind-of play by play I almost always price check a few misc yellow tag items first, both to gauge the self check out cashiers interest in what I'm up to and to see if anything is tagged wrong. I then grab the potential penny item, price check it to make sure (I've never had a yellow tag on anything I've bought, I just scan the normal barcode), and then quickly buy it and leave the store.

Only once have I had a curious cashier and been forced to use a normal check-out/cashier. If this happens just buy a smaller higher priced item along with your penny item so the total doesn't come out to a penny.
