In regards to buy scams or whatever
you want to call it.
I had read somewhere about the toolboxes
/cabinets going for really cheap but there
never seemed to be any in the store.

Well over the weekend I was looking at
a Craftsman toolbox combo and while
I was there i noticed the guy had two
Husky tool cabinets, I did not ask about
them but he did tell me he had a couple
more left in storage. I said yeah those
look like Home Depot tool boxes "the
big ones". He said he got those and
about 30 others at an auction.
Whether or not he was telling truth I
don't know but I did notice someone had
flooring signs on two trucks parked
In front of his house. It makes me
wonder whether or not he might be
a flooring contracter that knows someone
at Home Depot and thats how he got all
those tool cabinets on the cheap and why
you couldn't find any in the store when
they were supposed to be on sale.

Some HD items go to a regional clearance center when they are returned, damaged, or clearanced. Flooring, power tools, electrical, faucets, and toilets are some of the items. One of these is here in the Atlanta area. I believe another is around Indy. They sell by the pallet, semi truck loads of them pennies on the dollar. No idea how you get in on that deal though. :(

Speaking of flooring... I scored bruce american hickory engineered hardwood for .88 sq ft. Bought 2100 sq ft for $1,800 and will do my entire house. Reg price is 3.39 sq ft

I tried price checking the regular SKU (not that there was a clearance SKU) on the 2606-21CT Milwaukee 1/2" drill kit today. This was a spring BF special. It said see attendant. I think it's been completely inactivated in my store's system. I just put it back, the attendant was overwhelmed w other customers & I knew he wouldn't know WTF to do anyway.

Btw I was also told by an employee that they drill a hole in their display model nailers, so they are junk.

I can confirm this. All nailers in the new display here have a drill hole through the top with a sticker next to the hole "DNI".

Nothing unbelievable, but I picked up a couple for Father's Day.

15%2B-%2B1

15%2B-%2B2

15%2B-%2B3

The little one is like those $1 "Swiss Army Knives" except with the bottle opener, but the big one is nice enough.

I see someone on CL selling the pallets of HD returns here in Dallas all the time. $1000 for a pallet of questionable power tools.

Yup, got one about 5 miles from my house and stop by a few times a week. Awesome deals if you are patient and sift through the junk. For instance, picked up a barely used $320 Milwaukee Worm Drive for $75.

I noticed the Dewalt Retractable Utility Knife (2-Pack) for $3.32 tonight. Now if I can just find some in-stock bags of pool filter sand to cut open.

I picked up a few of those for $9.73; a single knife is $12.98. The quick change feature seems to lead to some poor reviews, as some people just can't use common sense, or claim that the button doesn't work. One more inquisitive reviewer took his apart and smoothed out the blade release, he hasn't had a problem since. I've tried six of them and all work well. Press firmly on the button and remove/replace the blade. They are comfortable in the hand and well worth even the original price IMHO (essentially BOGO).

I found a Ridgid R4120 miter saw (old model) mixed in with the newer model R4122's. Looked it up online, and the two have the same SKU number. Had an employee scan it, and it scans the same as the 4122, same price. What's up with this? This is like what i'm seeing with some of the old blue model Ryobi's ringing up with the same SKU as the new green models.

But on a positive note, the R4122 just went on clearance status at some stores. Price hasn't dropped yet, but definitely keep your eyes open for this 12 inch miter saw in the near future.

I talked to a manager the other night. Even new replacement models for a lot of brands are just re-using the old model number. They have various small changes to the product, but my guess is the company wants to keep money, so they still sell the old model for the price of the new.

My store had the Milwaukee saw at regular price; I tried to price match, and the lady instantly said, "Well we don't price match the website." It took a good 30 seconds to get her to shut up long enough to show her that it wasn't on the website, it was at another store. She scoffed at me and repeated herself.
I guess she was still mad from coming over to me while I was using the PRO desk to find deals, and condescendingly saying, "May I help you?" I told her "no," then she actually leaned over me, and grabbed the note pad I was using to write SKU numbers on and pulled it over to where she could see it. Enter my bubble, and I get really steamed. I turned to her and said, "Can I help YOU?" She wanted to know why I was using the computer. I just looked at her and said, "Well, you can leave me alone or I can return 32k in cabinetry. Up to you." She actually thought about it for a minute before wandering away. Wow.

You'll have to look up the R4120 from Google (Ridgid R4120 Home Depot). Can't search it from the HD website.

Model:R4120
Internet/Catalog:100618246
Store SKU:187336

Model:R4122
Internet/Catalog:205598720
Store SKU:1001250898

Actually this is showing different numbers, but if you use the Price Check app using the R4120's SKU, it pulls up the R4122. Same thing if you scan it, it pulls up the R4122. They have the old number tied to the newer model somehow.

I could probably go back and see if self checkout says sometime different, but I would imaging self checkout would say the same thing that their handheld scanners say.

This must be some kind of countermeasure to prevent penny deals. Maybe it was a customer return that was at penny status, then they just tied it to the new model.

I had 3 employees walk over to me while I was using the price check app on the computer by the outdoor garden center door. They questioned why I was using Price Check and not the website. I explained that the website doesn't give store prices, and they didn't believe me. Eventually they just walked away when I started ignoring them. The pro desk and customer service desk computers were all turned in, so this was the only computer I could use.

Like I said a few posts ago, if someone tells you no, just try again with someone else. You have 4 options: pro desk, self checkout associate, customer service desk, and garden center. If they all say no, try coming in at a different time (right after opening, or 30 minutes before closing), that doubles your chances. Eventually you'll find someone that will do it. Worked for me yesterday.
One day I tried self checkout, who called over the store manager and said no. Came back the next day and tried at pro checkout, she gave it to me.
The thing to keep in mind is that all large discounts need an override approval code from a manager. You just need to make sure you get a different manager than the last one.

The stores around me must be on there own (tried 4 within 30 miles)... No "price check" computers "employee use" only. No matching clearance prices. absolutely none from out of state.

Ill keep trying, but you guys are lucky

Are you doing the survey that you get on every receipt? It asks if you used the in-store computer or kiosk. Make sure you say "tried to use". There's also a question where you can write a comment, make sure you write "they won't let us use in-store computers", and sometimes at the end, they'll give you the option to write a review for the store. Let that be known in the review also.

I thought it was coming down from corporate that they're supposed to have a computer for customer use. I could be wrong.

I kid you not: last night, there was 1 register open with mean lady and her trainee. She was obviously trying to look important.

The PRO desk had 2 people that were trying to look busy, and would run away when people approached the registers.

There was a group of 4 employees standing in front of the registers just talking and having a good time and purposely wouldn't make eye contact. My store is run by kids. Seriously. It's probably why there is so much DNI stuff everywhere.

But I will try again when I meet up with that manager.

I hope it wasn't recently...I was just at my HD last night, and those were clearanced out at 32 bucks.....

This was about 6 months ago. All the stores around me are listed at $180, and I never see clearance deals around here anyway, even before the store opened. I have better luck at Lowes and Menards for clearance stuff and I hate trying to find anything in HD.

One thing I highly regret not getting was a brand new in box (still factory sealed) California compressor they had for $75. I didn't know anything about them, thought they were some cheap off brand, that was until I heard about them a few weeks later here on GJ.

I'm midwest as well. If you don't like hunting at HD, just watch for anything I post. Not all stores are the same, but a lot of times the Midwest will get the deals at the same time.

Polexican, where are you at, exactly, in Illinois? That way when I do store searches I can let you know if anything is in your area...
