The Dewalt Tough System storage units have finally hit a good price if you can still find them.

All of the DeWalt toughboxes I found have been in overhead. In most of the stores I dont ever remember seeing them for sale on the floor. The ones I got probably had 1/4" of dust on them, like they were put up there when they came in stock and then just forgotten.

Even the cashier selling them to me commented on how good of a deal I got, and how they seem to "forget about stuff" all the time, then it goes on clearance and they send it back or destroy it.

I shoulda given him my number for when stuff is about to get tossed! I would think they have to feel better about selling to me for last clearance price vs just destroying the stuff (unless maybe its a big tax write off for them?)

The DS400 were still in the cardboard boxes? Where were they hiding them? In the tool corral rafters, or in the rafters in one of the other aisles?

How about your yellow tool chests? Did you find those in the shipping boxes or did you get floor models? In the tool corral area or in the other aisles?

My local store has the DS400 on display in the tool corral. Full retail price. I've looked high and low for the yellow tool chests. None of the stores around here have them, all gone. Interestingly, stores in the next state have lots of them in inventory. I'm wondering if they're regular price. It seems odd that one region would have them totally purged while another nearby region still lists them at full price.

Give em a call and ask. Press 0 and ask the first person who answers to check the "store price" on the SKU, and make sure you say "not the internet price". Just make sure you don't ask someone in the tool department.

The yellow tool chest were clearances out in my area back in January. In April they should up at full price again... At full price and they refused price match

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh yea, got my first $.01 item today. Got two packs of the 48count AA Rayovac batteries.

Also picked up two more packs of the Energizer batteries for $3.50 each.

I had never been to this particular store to look for deals but they are definitely a bit shady. I saw that they had 37 on hand for the 24 pack Energizer batteries but I couldn't find a single pack. I asked an employee who responded by saying "Oh yea that's a good deal! I bought two of those myself." I asked where they were and he said they should be in the battery section or on an end cap. He then asked me how many I was looking to buy and I said two or three. He then told me that he could probably "find" me two of them. Amazingly he walked off somewhere and came back with two packs of them............I never did see any of them hanging up myself.

For the Rayovac batteries, I remembered someone else buying them and I happened to see two packages on an end cap and grabbed them up. They were both Listed at $14.** so I took it up to the self checkout to do a price check. The cashier decided to come do it for me and they rang up at $0.01. She responded by saying "I don't know why it's saying that but we can't sell it to you for that price." I just walked off and continued searching the store. As soon as I saw her walk away from the self checkout I walked up there and checked out myself and got out of there!

Here is my little deal of the day Ridgid MS1290LZA. it was sitting in the middle of the isle in a cart. I had seen it there last week with another one just like it but this week there was one left as a worker walked by i asked him what deal was he said it was a display model. I asked him how much regulary $399 he said $299. I told him thanks as i walked away he asked my what it would take for me to buy it i said $200 bucks and the rest is history. think i got a pretty good deal.

Attached are the pics of the clearance tags if anyone needs them.

Got lucky today. Found Milwaukee Fuel Impact driver kit @ $58. Was in the rafters hidden between two other items. Tool associate was super helpful and thought it was great it was so cheap. SCO lady wasn't as helpful and kept insisting it was probably a display item and that they didnt sell them, even though it wasnt labeled as such. Tool dude talked to the manager and asked id they could sell display items and he said sure and I'm pretty sure the tool dude wanted to high-five me. Mentally fist pumped and kinda wanted to tell SCO lady to **** it. She did however stiff me on the military discount, saying that she can't stack discounts. Pretty sure I've gotten double discounts before. Went to another HD after work and picked up two 4-packs of Bessey clamps @$5.03 a piece.

I hit 10 stores today, stopping at every HD and Lowes in the area. I found several of the DS150 boxes but there was not a DS400 to be found. I bought a boatload of the same sized Ridgids using the TrueValue 40% coupons on the $39.00 MSRP box. Several cases of 50c nails, a nailer, quite a nice haul. Pics tomorrow.

I had a similar experience with not finding things that employees seem to have been holding back. I have identified many situations where closeout items have been "missing" or were incapable of being found, and remained at 1 item in inventory for quite some time. When they get down to **.03 pricing they magically disappear from inventory and the stock count goes to zero. I think that employees may be holding some items back for their buddies until they get to **.03 or 0.01 pricing.

Location of Hitachi nailers?

Just picked up two Milwaukee m18 multi tools 2626-20 for 30.03. Also found two Milwaukee bit sets 48-32-4401 for .01, went to self checkout and it threw a red flag. I was told I can't purchase them. After a short discussion they let me have one bit set for .01 but would not sell the other.

Do you have a picture of the boxes that these shipped in?

The boxes are usually a plain brown box; sometimes they same Dewalt on the side. In either case, they will have a sticker with a barcode on them. Find a manager, give them the SKU number of what you're looking for. They'll pull out their little handheld and punch it in; even if they are out of them in the computer, that handheld will have a special barcode number that you need to find the box. It will be on the top left of their handheld's screen. Once you have that number, you can go aisle to aisle looking to your heart's content at every brown box hoping to win the lottery :)

what's this barcode you're talking about?
when I go looking up in the rafters, I just look at the SKU numbers that are on just about everything. If there's no SKU number, I try to locate the model number. Just about everything is gonna have at least one of those 2 pieces of information on it. If not, ask an associate to pull it down (or get a ladder and do it yourself, if you're brave).

If it's in a brown shipping box, it will have a barcode sticker on the side with a set of numbers separated by a dash. This is the instore barcode. It will be specific to that store's delivery. That's what they are looking at in their little handheld- Unopened shipping boxes will have these barcodes that are not the same as a part number, SKU, or model number of the specific item. In many cases if you look at those cardboard boxes, you will see people have handwritten the SKU or model number on the outside of the box to show the contents inside. If it is a new or lost shipment, it won't have anything handwritten on it. If it's lost somewhere in the store, the only way to find it is by that sticker barcode.

This is the first time I've read about this. Thanks for the info!

No prob. I found this out because my store showed 50 each of the 1 dollar sawzall blades from Diablo, but didn't show they were on the floor anywhere. When I asked a manager, he told me what I just told you, and gave me the barcode to look around the store for the missing box. Neither of us could find it, so my store has 100 Diablo blades in limbo.

Just found 3 of those blades at one of my stores yesterday, sitting on the wood pallet portion of the floor shelf where the rest of the recip saw blades hang. Grabbed all 3....dont really have a use for them but for 3 bux Ill hold onto em.

Yes the SKU was hand written on the DeWalt Toughsystem box, that is how I was able to locate them in the rafters.

My local stores always put the $1 blades at the pro desk in a loose pile. I usually grab 10 of each when they are there.

I bought one of those Husky tool boxes at HD ...they're great & I'd highly recommend. Originally, I was suspicious of its quality, but bought anyway. The socket drawer is the perfect height for deep wells and all drawers seemd very solid.......and my son bought a similar roll around box that was similar. I would not hesitate to buy these...great price and you'll bet to get good customer service with HD.

Sorry if this has been discussed..I have done quite a bit of reading but could not find an answer.

I found an item in the clearance section (Milwaukee m12 driver) normally 159$ IIRC now 119.00$

This item does not show up in the price check app when sorting Milwaukee for clearance items. Is this common? Can anyone elaborate why this item is not in the system as clearance?

And since I am here...when the price check app list store QTY (for both thew store I am in and nearby ones) are these numbers accurate? I think I read a while ago talk of '0 in stock' and people find them. Is that correct? On the other hand if it says they are in stock should I be confident the item is hiding somewhere?

Thanks!

It may be listed as "Inactive". Scroll through Milwaukee without filtering until you find it.
Inventory count is just what they're "supposed" to have. Some stuff is missing/stolen. If a count says "0", I usually don't bother looking for it, but there may still be one out there. If the count says "1" and you can't find it, it's either hiding good from an employee who wants it, or stolen.

I would imagine that inventory counts for big ticket items (mowers, snowblowers, etc) are way more accurate than smaller items. Edit: but then again, my store supposedly had 1 Charbroil grill for $50.03, nowhere to be found... see here: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=4945689&highlight=charbroil#post4945689
They just had their inventory audit by RGIS 2 months ago, and supposedly haven't stocked Charbroil grills since 2 winters ago.

My Mom used to audit for RGIS. When she saw me going through HD with my shopping list she got a big laugh out of it. She thinks the way they handle inventory at HD is a joke. Every department has it's own wastebasket.

I worked for RGIS for about 4 or 5 months... hated that job. I only did the Walmarts and Macys. I never did the Home Depots, because they were always done on the weekends. Standing there counting things all day (or scanning things all day) for 8 hours straight can drive you nuts.

Just a quick note, if you get the "reboot" message when trying to open Price Check, just try it 2 or 3 times. I get the message often. After the 3rd time it will open. You don't actually have to reboot the computer.

I don't know why, but your story about the wicked witch just made me think of the old hag from Monster's Inc http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120608051102/disney/images/f/f7/Roz_Face.gif

And the HD's by me had hardly any of the cheap nails. The HD's in the metro detroit area **** for deal hunting to be honest. I have gotten a few good deals over the years, but in general its more **** than anything worth while most of the time.
