Please read posts 1 and 3 on page 1 of this thread. Then go read page 1 of the how-to find penny deals thread.

These same questions keep getting asked here, even though the answers have been put in a conspicuous location where it's easy to find them.

I don't see them in said posts but I will keep looking.

Does HD do anything to the display cordless tools? My HD has a 2653 1/4" hex Fuel impact on display. I've asked twice & they keep saying its probably been rendered useless (looks fine) just to try to make me go away.

I think the case, 2nd battery & charger are gone but at $58.03 it's still a good deal IMO

Kinda pisses me off they don't want to sell displays - if it's going to wind up in a landfill (most likely scenario) that's wasteful & unethical from an environmental perspective. Power tools don't break down in landfills.

There's nothing wrong with the displays. In some stores they drill holes in nailers, but none of the ones I've seen do it.

One guy claimed they drill their nailers at my store, but it seems unlikely. Relative to retail shrinkage, we're in a small town and VERY low crime area. If people are shoplifting, it's individual screwdriver bits, candy bars etc. No one is walking out w a nailer crammed in their back pocket.

Damn you :lol_hitti!!!

None of the stores close to me have had any of these items in stock. My trip to the Price Check App during lunch lended zero deals for me today.

Lol. I had never been to the store I went to today. I got on the computer and started seeing 3 on hand for everything and I was like no way! Walked over to the tool area and every single one of them were together on the highest shelf. I am mad at myself for forgetting to look for a few things so I may venture back over tomorrow.

Well i went to my local HD today...more to buy something specific but i forgot my gift card (D'oh!) so i went looking around.

Anyways pretty much nothing in my store seems to get the yellow clearance stickers. Unless it was specifically on the clearance rack.

So i went looking for a computer to use....and couldnt find any. So i guess im confused as to what computers you guys are using. All the computers i found had the credit card scanners attached. All of them were facing "in" so they were behind the counters even in the windows and appliances section (only two areas besides the front with computers). up front at the CS and "pro desk" was the same. All computers facing in.

So i guess my question is are those the computers you guys are using and just hoping behind the "counters" at the window/appliance centers? I almost did that in appliances but each computer there had sticky notes and business cards like it was an employees desk.

Ryobi 4v screwdriver looks like it is changing. I saw the new style (plastic blister packaging) next to the old style (cardboard box).

I usually end up looking at windows and doors or sometimes in the kitchen area. I sometimes go during lunch at work and I wear a full business suit. People actually come up to me and ask me for doors and windows?!?! Does the CEO of HD even wear a freaking suit?!?!

Yeah I'm quoting myself and answering my own question after looking him up...sometimes!
In his corporate profile...nope

I guess it would be a little unbecoming to walk into the BOD meeting with a dirty Homer apron with Craig bedazzled on it. :pimpflash

I like the peace and quiet of the lighting department when they have a computer there.

They were so nice at the store I went to today. I walked up towards the Pro counter and there were two employees and another customer. They had two computers for public use but the employee was doing something on one of them. The other employee informed me that the other computer was currently not working and asked if I needed help. I told her I was just going to use the computer to look a few things up.

She let me use the employee's computer behind the counter at a desk! She turned the monitor around and handed me the keyboard and I was able to sit there uninterrupted while I looked.

Scored my first deal today. Found 2 of the m12 saws at 30.03. Asked the guy to grab them off the top shelf and he says they just had inventory so they weren't up there. I pointed to them and he grabbed a ladder. There was a brushless impact driver kit with 2 batteries and a case for $58 but we couldn't find it anywhere. Found the bare tool marked $189 on the clearance rack with no case, chargers or batteries. He dug some more and found everything but the case. Gave me a free Milwaukee tool bag and knocked 10% off. I'll post pics of the tools when I get home!

Hit a bunch of HD's around Boston, grabbed 3 more of the Dewalt grinders, and managed to find the last 2653 impact driver kit at the Watertown store. No Dewalt tool boxes, which is what I was really hoping for.

I went into the Peoria HD again today hoping to maybe find one of the Impacts in the lighting section or some other bizarre part of the store. First stop: the pro computer. I took this shot for the people who were confused about where to find the price checker:
Ml9oJnK.jpg

Then I sorted by clearance and started looking for new clearance items to find. There was a set of AA batteries I didn't notice before and some light bulbs and a few other things.

After I got a few pictures of the SKUs a HD employee came up and said "Can I take you to find something?" and I said "Nope, just browsing around a bit" and he said "Well you can't just keep sitting on this computer..." "Why?" "You're taking pictures of the prices you can't be doing that it's against store policy what you're doing. It's basically stealing." and I said "It's absolutely not. This is for public use I already contacted HD about this before." and he said "It's not for public use and you can't take pictures of prices. It's not allowed to take photos in the store. I think you might be a spy from a rival store." and I said "I'm not. I'm taking photos of items I want to go find." and he said "What do you want to buy I'll take you to it." "I don't know, that's why I'm browsing the computer." and he told me to stop using the computer and that it's HD's corporate policy and he would go get the store manager. I told him not to bother, I'll call HD corporate.

Then I left the store and called HD customer care from my store. They were very surprised to find out an employee accused me of being a spy and a thief, and said that those computers are absolutely for public use. In addition, while I was on hold... The ad that was playing talked about using the pro computer to check prices and in store inventory! They told me they called the manager of the store who was unaware of what happened but also said there are no public use computers in the store. I told the CC representative that it was the computers that say Store PC and have a public section with the Price Checker app. He said "Oh of course yeah those are definitely for customer use. I'll have a talk with him about that as well." So

I'm hoping that ******* got a chewing at the least. It's unbelievable to accuse a customer of being a spy or thief. It drew quite the crowd while he was borderline shouting at me. I really think that guy should be fired but I'm sure that won't happen. It made me want to cancel my HD credit card and be done with the whole damn store. I spend a lot in there all the time and it's my favorite home store. I drive cross town to go to it when there's a Lowes and a Menards within 5 minutes of my house.

Is one Milwaukee Fuel Impact too much to ask!? That's all I want HD why must you be so difficult. This is the second time this WEEK I've had a huge hassle at that store.

Don't worry after finding a deal at one store I went to my usual store and found a few items I wanted. The only employee I could find told me he was too busy to help and to come back when someone was working in hardware. Then he proceeded to give me the same song and dance about inventory being wrong and no clearance items not being on the floor. I just walked away and came home.

I was told at one of my stops today in my search for the 2653 that the inventory will always show at least one when there's a floor model- any truth to this?

I honestly find it hard to believe that there's not employees in every store, that know exactly how to capitalize on the system, and turn their friends or relatives on to all the deals. I'd bet those are also the ones that we hear all the horror stories about, giving so much grief.

I mean really... what employee honestly doesn't know that customers can use the computers to browse?

Yea...I've been to five different stores now and have not had a single issue other than employees asking if I needed help. I did have one guy who asked me a question in a dickish way but that's about it.

So this may seem dumb but I can't help but think I've missed something.

I found some good deals tonight at one of my stores that has some clearance prices on items that are online for much more.

So can I buy multiples of these at the online price to pick up in store and then return/rebuy for the clearance price?

I can go to one store and buy a bunch at full price and then go 5 minutes down the road and return them and rebuy at the clearance price in that store?

What is the catch? I'm looking to do this with multiples of multiple items. I want to make sure I'm not missing something before I place a 1000 dollar order.

Also I can't ever get the price check app to change stores. It always tells me I have an invalid store number. Has anyone ever had any luck with that?

It's just the employees in your area. Locally, the HD employees near me are not happy about anything that isn't full retail price. I was once told by employee that "we aren't all the same, Home Depot is like separate companies".

So I got home from work, showered and head out on the hunt. First stop a very large clean and neat home depot in south Miami. Found the Bostitch 2 inch 16 gauge flooring cleats that I think HotRodHudson was asking for, they had 14 at full price. I spoke to a supervisor who spoke to the manager...... No go they could not match the price on my 50 cent a piece receipt from last week. This store was like 10 miles from home :( Oh well I left and hit a small HD store 5 miles away... score......:rocker: got 4 Ridged 16 gauge 2-1/2 in. Angled Finish Nailer for 42 dollars each. Next store 4 miles down. Score 5 Dewalt 18 volt grinders 25 dollars each. They had a bunch of nails, but to big for me to haul, took the small ones. The 18 gauge porta cable staples were in the clearance. they had like 20 of them form 1 inch to 1 1/2 they were all full price... will keep an eye out for them to drop. They also had 7 makita 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless Combo Kit for 299 gonna keep my eye on those too.

Next store. 6 packs of 1 3/4 16 gauge nails 50 cents. hit another one close to home 1 box of nails. Then home I went total of 4 hours and 4 stores later here is my haul.

Nice job! Are the 50cent nails still showing with quantity on hand or are you just finding them out on the shelves still?

Not at mine. They have a 2653 but QOH shows zero. Twice now employees have scanned the SKU w their nifty handhelds and said we don't have any. I feel compelled to point out that's not true as there is one hanging on the wall RIGHT THERE. Kinda like Dr Phil's "we know from results that's not true...."

Thanks to everyone for the tips in the thread and the penny deals thread. I was always under the impression that clearance stuff online matched what was in the store and if an item was on clearance it could be found in the clearance section with the proper price. You know what happens when you assume...

There are a number of HD's within a 20 minute drive from me (at least 5). I stopped at one HD on my way home from work and had no issues using the computer at the customer service counter facing the public area. Unfortunately everything I was interested in had an on hand quantity of 0.

Feeling hopeful I stopped at one more HD on the way home. I was greeted by the person behind the counter and she even offered to show me how to use the price check app! I think she was bored... hah. Clearance items were pretty much the same with the same prices from what I could tell, but nothing shown in inventory again. At this point I noticed the ability to check stock at other stores in the area. No luck on the M18 impact driver and the few things I did find weren't of enough interest to me to go hunt down.

I didn't necessarily expect to find anything, so I'm not disappointed. This won't be something I do on a regular basis, but I am happy that I know how to search now. Anytime I'm in the store for something else I'll be sure to scope out the area. Thanks!

I used to think this was the case at every Home Depot. Turns out, my local store turns over a fair amount of clearance stuff, but anything worth a damn goes QUICK. A couple weeks ago they were clearancing all the Empire levels. One night, there were probably 20 of them in varying lengths. Within two days they were all gone without a trace, and the normal pile of random obsolete Ryobi batteries and obviously heavily used tools (why are they allowing returns on these??) were still there.

You gotta be fast and lucky. Make friends with the guys in the tool department, they'll tip you off.

I've never found a single item that I've purchased in the actual clearance section. They have all been in the rafters except the batteries and the bosch laser.

You did good.
Surprisingly all of the cleaerence deals I found on the computer were on the clearence shelf. The nailer was the only worth picking up today. The husky 1/2" air impact was also on sale for $60.06.

Yea, the clearance game in the metro detroit area is crazy. The nailers went right way most went I think at the higher clearance level though. One thing I did luck out on was the cheap senco F/16 finish nailer that's about it. I don't see much return items out like I used to. I think the stores are pushed to rtv for a better deal.

Made a trip to pick up kids at camp so I hit a couple stores on the way. 1st store had some ds400's but wouldn't budge on price. 2nd store didn't have ds400 but showed the $18 price, needless to say I will be pushing the price match with store #1 tomorrow. At store #2 I did score the Dewalt 18volt cut off tool for $25! 780 miles driven today!!!
