I used to think this was the case at every Home Depot. Turns out, my local store turns over a fair amount of clearance stuff, but anything worth a damn goes QUICK. A couple weeks ago they were clearancing all the Empire levels. One night, there were probably 20 of them in varying lengths. Within two days they were all gone without a trace, and the normal pile of random obsolete Ryobi batteries and obviously heavily used tools (why are they allowing returns on these??) were still there.

You gotta be fast and lucky. Make friends with the guys in the tool department, they'll tip you off.
If I could only get my hands on the computer. I think my problem is that I'm too nervous just to hop on it. I asked permission and got popped with a bunch of questions and was told if it's on sale it's in the corner.

Just act like you know what you are doing and you will be good to go. If you are worried about it wear an orange shirt or Home Depot hat and I'm sure employees won't talk to you lol.

What amazed me was that I haven't been into the store for 4 days, and all of the inventory that I had been watching was gone. Things I was waiting for to go to **.03 were at **.03 today and there was no stock to be found. I think I might have another person who follows this thread in my neighborhood.
Or a store employee that was stashing stuff...

Anyone had success getting HD to ship stuff like Lowes does? I am looking for the Ridgid 18v circular saw, grinder, and/or sawzall. All of the stores immediately around me have them at full price. And they don't show on the web as available for buy inline pick up in store.

1 - What do you search to find the nailers? I tried Bostich and Rigid and Nailer and never even saw them on the store computer under anything.
2 - Same with nails. I searched nails and Bostich and Rigid and nothing showed up
3- I went to two stores and noticed neither store showed inventory at a third close store. I went to the third store and noticed it didn't show inventory at any other store on the computer, like it was on a closed system. The employee hand held did show other stores when I asked though. Felt like the store mgr was keeping the store inventory from showing to keep the deals there. Probably not though
4- All the big store by me in larger cities had zero, either you assholes went there or they are run better
5- Found that if it is a tool and says one on hand, I could never find it. If it was not powered and said one I could find it
6- One store had 4 small Dewalt boxes (computer said 4 of each), 4 large Dewalt boxes and 2 Dewalt reciprocating saws (computer said 3 saws)

Was looking for the 18v Dewalt cut out tool used for drywall holes, only one store showed it and it was gone.

It's a **** shoot with inventory counts! However, if I want a specific item clearanced and inventory says 1 or more, then the hunt is on. Yesterday, one store I visited said they had 6 of the $30 Bostitch trim nailers but couldn't find a single one. I will just do more searching next visit & hope I find them then. Don't get discouraged it took me weeks when I first started "sport shopping" and I've never made a haul like a lot of guys show off. It's kinda like golf, one good shot (tool find) and it keeps you coming back.

Anybody notice a change in behavior on the HD website? I used to be able to use it to screen for local availability of closeout items. Not any more. When I type in a closeout SKU I'm no longer given the option of looking for in-store stock. Now the closeout SKU all seem to offer only ship to home or ship to store, without the ability to check local inventory for pickup.

I'm wondering ... has HD decided to take away the web site's ability to search for local inventory on closeout items?

I thought it's been that way for a while now. Once something hits clearance, it says "Online Only". If you go on the Pro site, it might say how many are "in stock", but still list the full price.

I spelled it correct in the store. I spelled it wrong typing on my phone here.

It pulled up other ridgid and bost stuff just didn't say any nailers in all three stores.

I actually haven't seen any clearance nailers at either local stores either...

Also, I got a call this morning from a bubbly sounding woman who wanted to speak with me about what happened yesterday at the store. We'll see what comes of it but I am already a little surprised they followed up on it with me.

I know 1 store around me (Manchester, NH) you can't search for anything at all in the Price Check app. You can open it, anything at all that you search for says "nothing found". I questioned a few different employees and they were dumbfounded about it. They told me I should be using Homedepot.com, not the price check. I didn't feel like arguing with them.

Are those recip saws on sale yet? Mine burned up the other day and I would really like to replace it.

Just called the store manager back. She was very apologetic and said she doesn't want that happening to anyone in their stores. It's totally OK to look for clearance items in the computer and she would talk to the associates about it. Then she offered to work me some kind of deal next time I'm in to make up for the convenience. I'm pretty happy with that out come. I really expected not to hear anything back and now I know that if I have problems in the future I can just go get her and she'll straighten things out.

I guess the thing to take from this is, HD corporate wants you to use those computers, and the HD Customer Care team will call your local HD and set them straight if they believe otherwise.

I do think that I've missed all the Milwaukee stuff at my local store at least. I've combed that place top to bottom for the impacts and the angle grinders and they just aren't there. So... anyone still have an extra one they'd ship me? I'd pay shipping and a little over the top if anyone wants to share the wealth. :bounce:

Went to my local store this morning and inventory was showing a few of the Hitachi nailguns on sale but I couldn't find a single one!!!!

I did score this though...

Got it for $85 rather than $399 regular price.

I have seen a few of these at HD and Loews. Just wondering why they are making them with barely any access at the floor level? They made it like a piece of furniture with 4 legs but you can't get a broom or any other cleaning device to clean the floor. God forbid something falling onto the floor and rolling under the cabinet. It's not like you could just move it away from the wall and sweep under it. You would have to disconnect all the plumbing in order to do so. Who designs this stuff??

Very little dust bunnies will collect under them since the bottom is closed off and small amounts won't be accessible until the next BIG renovation. If the lower black panel was not there one could vaccum but its there to close it off. Nice deal but most anything Glacier Bay is a pass for me.

Yep, the black piece closes it off so you don't have to worry about anything getting underneath it. I normally build my own cabinets but this is for my spare bathroom that I am remodeling so we shall see how it stands up. I am tiling everything before it's installed so it won't be a big deal to take it out later if necessary. The $85 price tag also helps to keep the total cost down!

Ok I found some bostitch nailers for 30.00

I thought that prices that ended in. 00 were the beginning of the discount. But they sell for almost 100.00 on amazon. I'll look closer from now on. I usually look for 03 ending prices.

In reference to the HD stores computers here are a couple things I've learned.
1) if the computer says it needs to restart or reboot & won't let me into the Price App then I go into the Home Depot website & back into the price app. The HD website was right next to the price app on my stores computer.
2) I have to go slow with clicking between screens or it says "no internet connection".
3) sometimes when I type in a search word or SKU & hit search it will say not found, if this happens I will slowly type in the info but leave off the last number of the SKU or letter of my search word. In a couple seconds a drop down appears I can click on.
4) the systems are really slow from my experience & if I try to rush them it gets finiky.
5) the orange shirt thing works (thanks op... I get customers asking for directions too)
6) inventory is anyone's guess. Not only the store I'm in but I've also seen the nearby stores counts not show up as others have sited.
7) if there is a clearance price at one store in the price app, when they are all gone the price will go back up if it's being sold on-line. (Such as with those 36" big yellow tool chests). I confirmed this one with corporate because I've had managers trying to find other stores clearance prices on their computers to verify my photo or print out with s price match request. Corporate said other stores can't see other stores clearance prices, so that tactic is one reason why I couldn't get a price match in the past. (Not wining!)

Hope that helps someone.....

thanks

I can get a top and bottom chest for right around $200 at my HD... is that a steal or are they going cheaper? There's like 3 way up high and no display models so i'm kinda hesitant to buy.

Went on the computer at one store and they were out of stock on the Ridgid Finishing Nailer for $58 but it said another store had 3. So I get to the other store but they are full price.

I also tried to get a little off the Floor Model 12'' sliding Ridgid Miter saw at the second store but got an aggressive manager who said nope that price is set in stone. Didnt matter that the blade wrench and manuals were gone. So I walked away from it.

Stopped by 6 stores in the MN area. Purchased 14 pairs of cheap gloves for $4.00, 1 bostitch cap nailer for $48, 1 3 1/2 In Porter Nailer for $83, and 1 M12 Screwdriver set for $70. Was a crapshoot in terms of dealing with store employees. Had one nice guy help me in the pro section at one store, had two others yell at me for asking about clearance items at two other stores. Seems to me that one should generally avoid employees with pinned badges on their shirt as they seem to be enforcers.

If people are really yelling at you, get their badge number and file a complaint with corporate. There's no reason for store employees to be yelling at customers, period. People get fired over that sort of misbehavior.

That makes no sense whatsoever. When I worked there we WANTED that clearance stuff gone. I got encouraged to make it gone.

Okay, more like strongly worded, angry tone about not having clearance, not price matching, not price adjusting etc. I'm not going to fight with a 6'1' 370lb+ bald annoyed guy.

So I got home from work, showered and head out on the hunt. First stop a very large clean and neat home depot in south Miami. Found the Bostitch 2 inch 16 gauge flooring cleats that I think HotRodHudson was asking for, they had 14 at full price. I spoke to a supervisor who spoke to the manager...... No go they could not match the price on my 50 cent a piece receipt from last week. This store was like 10 miles from home :( Oh well I left and hit a small HD store 5 miles away... score......:rocker: got 4 Ridged 16 gauge 2-1/2 in. Angled Finish Nailer for 42 dollars each. Next store 4 miles down. Score 5 Dewalt 18 volt grinders 25 dollars each. They had a bunch of nails, but to big for me to haul, took the small ones. The 18 gauge porta cable staples were in the clearance. they had like 20 of them form 1 inch to 1 1/2 they were all full price... will keep an eye out for them to drop. They also had 7 makita 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless Combo Kit for 299 gonna keep my eye on those too.

Next store. 6 packs of 1 3/4 16 gauge nails 50 cents. hit another one close to home 1 box of nails. Then home I went total of 4 hours and 4 stores later here is my haul.

Forgot to mention this on my Friday's post I ran into two of those special buy Dewalt compact tables saws left over Black Friday at the first store that I had struck out on. Had an older real helpful employee scan it. I was thinking man this must be a penny like the one I got about 4 months ago, I was shaking and salivating. But when he scanned it it came up at 299 each. You can tell they were old they had dust all over them. But I struck out, but this store was sooooo organized and neat that I think they probably were never on clearance. Heck they were the only ones with nails at full price :headscrat oh well the rest of the night was great so it all worked out.

Still haven't gotten the Balls to use a computer yet. Working up to it, I'm using the old shelf check out price check method or have them scan it for me.

I used one for the first time this week and have used it the four times I've been back in different HD's over the past few days.

There will be one facing out by the pro counter. Just sit down and start browsing. I used the pro one 3 times and only ever had someone tell me to just let them know if I needed any help. I've also just sat down in the rolling chairs at the computers at the desks by windows and doors and the computer in cabinets.

Once you start using the computers finding the clearance deals is easy. I have a list on a piece of paper of keywords like "dewalt" or "ryobi" and I just go down the list and write down SKU's I want to look for
